swimline 8940 vs Hayward SP1091LX

Hi everyone.

This is my first post in this great forum. I want to buy thru wall skimmer for my 15' x 48" intex pool and searching available options in my country (nothing in local so I have to order from overseas), I found these 2 options:

swimline 8940 with shipping will cost around 53 USD

Hayward SP1091LX with shipping will cost around 107 USD

From reading and searching I see more people buying Hayward. So is it worth almost the double cost?

Thank you

I have the wide mouth version of the swimline skimmer. My only qualm with it is The baskets break easily if they get loaded down with debris so I keep a couple spares on hand & am mindful to empty it often when we have a storm or something. I buy them on amazon for about $8 each. Part of this may be due to my strong suction from my 1.5hp pump so your mileage may vary with a weaker intex pump.
So long as u have access to buy those & replacement weir doors incase u have an issue then there’s not much difference. The weir doors are about $5 each.
The Hayward stuff is just a bit more common (at least here in the US) that’s all.

Thank you for your information

Almost all swimline spare parts are available to me through amazon. For example the basket is around $10 with shipping. Hayward is not available.

I am planning to buy intex 2100 sand filter pump, so is there a need for any adopter to connect with swimline skimmer? From my reading there is an adopter that is needed for Hayward (metric to imperial)

By the way, is it big difference using wide mouth? What do you recommend for my pool size.

Where are you looking to order from? Hayward is more commonly used but both have good reviews. At the price I would go for the Swimline.
Am outside USA and we do have here amazon. But not all products are deliverable. Swimline products are available to order and with good shipping rate (prime). Thank you for your recommendation. I will go for Swimline

U can use these

& just get regular above ground pool hoses & clamps

Unless u wish to hard pipe with pvc - in which case there are lots of threads here about hard piping intex pools/pumps with standard 1 1/2” returns & skimmers.
Intex connections are proprietary & don’t jive with standard pvc

Does anyone have any experience replacing a Swimline with a Hayward? Do the holes line up, or are they spaced differently? Too far from a pool store (60 miles, one way!) to just go satisfy my curiosity. Our faceplate has developed some cracks and I would like to replace it when I drain down for the winter. Thanks!

Not sure if they are the same size/line up - the swimline faceplates are only $7-$10 (depending upon standard or wide mouth) is there a specific reason you want a Hayward one?

No, not really. It's more of a "buy what's available when I see it" thing. Mine is the original one that came with the pool, and I can find no brand markings on it. I'm just assuming it's not the pricier Hayward, but don't know. It's a wide-mouth, and has the same number and arrangement of holes, I do know that. If they are interchangeable, it makes it easy. (I'm all for easy!) 🤫

When it comes time to do the deed, I may PM you for advice and pitfalls to avoid. Somehow, I know I won't avoid 'em, but at least I'll remember that you "told me not to do that!"

Thanks, and enjoy your day!

Mine says hydrotools on the lid

You may just wanna order both faceplates and check then return the one that doesn’t fit if u can’t identify it.

Just went out and checked mine everywhere on the body, the lid, the weir, the bowl, etc. inside and out. The only writing is on the lid (open/close in 3 languages) and the body of the unit that hangs down the side of the pool (Made in China.) The lid also has a cross hatch pattern on top. Sorry, no pic's- my phone's dead.

The basket is of no help either. It's been replaced so many times with generics from Amazon, I only know that the original looked nothing like the Hayward pic that you forwarded.

I'm gonna follow your suggestion, and just get a couple that look right and see what fits.

Thanks!
