INSTALLATION AND PHOTO THREAD!!!!

If u have a multi port valve u can. Some people add them for that reason.
I have no idea if I do. Probably not. Thankfully it’s not too bad. Water level is higher in the skimmer than I would prefer but lots of sun and hot temperatures in the forecast this whole week so I will probably just let evaporation and splash-out do it’s thing. My tap water has a VERY high pH and TA and right now both are within good range so I’d rather keep it that way than drain some of it and end up having to add hose water from evaporation anyways and throwing the pH/TA off like it does every time I add fill water lol. It took me 3 weeks to get my TA down from 300 to 90 and I’m still working on lowering it to 70. My pH has been so much more stable and I’m not having to add acid all the time!

I got sick of having to lower my water when it rained. I dilled a hole in the side of my skimmer where I wanted my high water level to be. I put in a brass fitting and attached a run of 1/2" pex to it. I piped it our under the deck that is around the pool and down one of the legs. Occasionally (1 or 2 times a season) it does suck in a leaf and clog, so I have to push a snake through it. I guess if it really became a bother I could put a piece of screen over the end. Sometimes I can just put my palm over the inlet and push and the pressure will dislodge the clog.

I have thought about doing this too!

I really don't know why it took me 8 years to think of.

And if I want to stop it from automatically draining, a wine cork fits right into it.

The hardest part was finding the fittings. I used a brass 1/2" pex to 1/2" male thread fitting. I drilled a 1/2" hole in the skimmer and it threaded in, but I was concerned about it pulling out (which would not be any harm, except the overflow would just run out of the hole and end up under the skimmer. I thought about epoxying it into place, but that is a hack solution in my opinion.

I finally found these

so the whole thing is brass and pex, so it won't corrode, and the low profile nut does not protrude too far into the skimmer to get the basket out.

Love this idea!!!!! Thank you! I hate being out of town when heavy rain is forecasted and I worry about the water level lol. And if I drain before the forecasted storm, it ALWAYS misses us hahaha
