1. Cant Shock w/o getting Iron Stains & 2. Sodium Bicarb Making Water Milky

will the BS increase the TA and pH? Pool Math says add 3lbs..
Calculation above from another member says 1.5lbs. So you’ll need to figure out who’s wrong. The baking soda will only raise TA. Your pH will go up all by itself once the TA is in range.

is there any other tests for that besides color matching? I feel like thats open to alot of error..
It is open for error. But. The good news is you really only care about low and high and those two are easy to spot. Any of the 7s are equally OK for you.

Let’s confirm your pool volume- how big around is your pool & how deep is the water (not the pool wall height)?

The bucket thing is pumping water from the pool and filtering iron out after it precipitated out of solution by adding chlorine. I don’t think it works all that well for filtering fresh water with no chlorine in it. I though you were going for the charcoal filter?
no.. someone else had posted a video where a guy used it to filter the fill water so I thought I would try it. hole in the lid for the hose, stuffed tight with polyfill , then drains out holes in the bottom. seemed like it would be worth a shot and cost me $3

how do i determine this? I put in my TA value from the test and pool math said add 3 lbs.

15" dm and using a tape measure, water is currently 41"
Also tonight u can do an Overnight Chlorine Loss Test to see if there’s still organics in the water.
If u pass —> maintain Target 🎯 fc levels or above daily
If u fail —> SLAM Process
Got any pics of the stains?
this is the best pic i could get.
Someone, I think it might’ve been you told me to only add like 20 ounces of chlorine, pool math told me to add 100 ounces. I haven’t added anywhere near that. May be about a quart so far. And I feel like my water is already starting to take on that yellow hue that it starts to get when the iron comes in. Although I could just be expecting it so my eyes are playing tricks on me. It’s only ever so slight and really hard to tell at this point.
You may not be able to see much on the stains in this picture. They’re not bad like they were before

Did your polyfill get stained brown? Curious what that could possibly do. Doesn’t sound like it would do anything for iron was was still in solution.

no... im just trying to not spend too much. Im out of money now and i simply cannot afford anymore money on this pool. that filter you mentioned may only be $20, but those $20s add up. Im in the hole for hundreds and hundreds on this pool this year and it just has to stop :(
the nursing home now gets all my extra money.
if I still have iron I guess I will have to keep it

What he is saying is the polyfill needs to be used once u have chlorine in the water not before otherwise the iron is “hidden “ & the polyfill won’t trap it.

yea my brain translated that after the fact LOL. i now have it in the skimmer since i swear the water is taking on a slight yellow hue as I add chlorine

I filtered my fill water because of rust and sediment concerns. It doesn't happen often, but I was sure the water would have gone rusty/dirty mid fill if I wasn't one step ahead of the universe toying with me. :ROFLMAO:

If yours does come out of solution, you'll filter it then.

This is dry stabilizer/cya u need 21oz.

It should say 100% cyanuric acid on the package somewhere whatever brand u get- available at Walmart, lowes, Home Depot etc

in an effort to contain costs, i am still a smidge low on FC, I have one chlorine tab here and I was told that raises CYA as well. could I use the one tab to maybe get both in line?

One tab will help a little for CYA but not enough. They are also slow dissolving and the longer it takes to get your CYA in range, the more your FC will burnoff without it.

OK I adjusted my pool volume and added 1.5 pounds of baking soda. I redid the TA test. It turned pink, not red. Is that OK? It turned a pink color at seven drops and I went all the way up to 10 drops and it never turned any darker or redder. So is it safe to say that seven drops was right and I am now at 70 TA?

So once I get my chlorine levels where they need to be, and my CYA levels where they need to be, how do I determine how much liquid chlorine to add each day to keep it in range?
Until the guys get back this should get u started
Add enough baking soda to get TA to 50
(About 1.5 lbs)
Test ta & ph after about 30 minutes to see where u are.
U need 30ppm dry stabilizer (put in a sock & hang it infront of a return not touching the pool wall) 21 oz.
5ppm of liquid chlorine stat - not sure what percentage u have
PoolMath
Will help calculate all amounts.
once im in range, how do I determine how much liquid chlorine to add daily to stay in range??

Whatever you lose, gets replaced, daily. For example, lets say you add today to 8ppm and if tomorrow's test says 5ppm, you lost 3 ppm and that's what needs to be replaced. Pool Math will give you the amounts.

This time of year the daily loss is high, A.K.A the peak season. In another month (maybe 2 for AL) the daily loss will drop pretty quick and you won't need to replenish as much.

But the key is to end up in target range tomorrow.

If you have to dose over target range right now to achieve it, then so be it. If you let it get to minimum, or below, you are well on your way to Swampville.

how do i figure out the PPM?? this morning after adding chlorine, my FC test shows 3.5 and the yellow on the chlorine test was darker than the colors on the container.. pool math is telling me 3.5 is too high and my ph of 7.5 (best guess as all the colors look the same really) is too low. This really is not simple lol
ps CYA still 0 as i havent got to walmart yet to buy any
