1. Cant Shock w/o getting Iron Stains & 2. Sodium Bicarb Making Water Milky

Oh those filter iron too?? Sweet :)
They have different filter types. Here’s one that says it reduces iron along with the filter housing. You’ll need to get some brass fittings that adapt your hose over to the filter input. I’ve done something similar many years ago. 2E7CBEF1-3A8F-48D9-80A9-D674B18A94DB.jpeg73B3661A-C7C5-48DE-9A91-3F8967854453.jpeg

Can you maybe give me more details about how you rigged this up to your hose? I am a visual learner so i am trying to envision how I can make this work.
Also, not to sound dumb, but when they say it filter rust, is that going to be from iron? I didnt specifically see iron listed ( I pulled this one up at my local home depot)

I’d have to get the filter you chose to know the fitting size so the best way might be to go to the store and grab the filter and housing, then spend 30-45 minutes :mad:finding an employee to help. Just show them the filter and tell them you want to connect your outdoor hose to the inlet of the filter.

The fitting will be something like this, it maybe not exact.

Worst case, If you get impatient waiting for employee help, you can grab a new hose from the garden section and the filter housing in a shopping cart and go to the fitting section where you can unbox the filter housing and then try different fittings and make sure they fit in the housing and can connect to the hose.

The filter housing will have some kind of fitting size in it which probably says 1/2” female NPT or 3/4”. NPT just stands for “national pipe thread”. So you’de look for a fitting with one end that says 1/2” male NPT. Sometimes the label is MPT (male pipe thread). And then the other side will need to be FHT (female hose thread). It sounds more difficult than it is. In all likely hood, find someone working in the plumbing section and they can help you out. If you have an Ace hardware, sometimes those have more helpful/knowledgeable employees that would love to help out.

It sounds like you crossed up the chemicals for the CC test. After you've finished the FC test, add *only 5 drops* of R-0003 to the water. If it stays clear, your CC is zero. If it turns pink, add and count the drops of R-0871 it takes to turn clear again.

I'd like to add what my idiot self needs to do to help speed things along orderly.

I get my bottles together for any test and line them up, in order, uncapped. I pick them up on one side, use them, and put them down on the other side. Then the next one is ready to go instantly.

no I gotcha! I was trying to figure out how it was going to hook to the spigot mote than the hose

yea I got that one figured out last night. it was user error. Seems my FC is 1.5 and my CC is 24...
along with a myriad of other issues...like a CYA of 200 :oops: So im draining and refilling

well just got back after being out of town all week. came home to black mold all over the sides and floor. about to finally drain it per previous comments for the iron issues. will that take care of the black mold when I drain and refill or do I need to do anything else? @Bperry @Newdude

How bad is it? Pictures? What looks like black mold can also just be normal algae spots that’ll clear up with chlorine in a few days. If you were draining anyway then don’t bother with the chlorine.

The plan was to try to sweep it off the sides and hope that it came out with the water when it drained, but there’s probably still going to be an inch or two of water left in the bottom, so I’m wondering if I need to do any type of treatment to keep it from growing right back again when I put clean water in it

Ewww, that’s kinda gross. The water is way low on chlorine. I don’t know about vinyl pools but I might bring the chlorine up to SLAM level, brush all of that to make sure it’s suspended in the water for a day or so being killed and then drain. But if you have iron staining that occurs when you add chlorine, that’s a consideration.

Since it’s a vinyl pool, you generally always need to keep 12” or so of water in the shallow end to avoid problems with the liner so you may have to do a combination drain and chlorinate? For sure you should brush the heck out of that and do what you can to chlorinate it as quickly as possible.

yes that pesky iron thing is definitely an issue. yes its very low. as I was draining I wasnt too concerned, but then its been sitting for 4 days while I was gone out of town with no daily chlorine adds. Didnt look like this at all when I left :(

also, this may sound silly, but what about brush really good to sir it all up in the water, add a gallon of chlorine and drain immediately with the hopes that it wont be sitting long enough to stain too bad?
im almost over this thing LOL

If you're wrong, you are out $5 in chlorine and 5 mins of brushing. I was wrong how much patio I was going to need and the quote is now a skootch over $30k. I'd much rather be your version of wrong. Very much so. :ROFLMAO:

well the hose adapter for the drainage valve won’t tighten and it’s just emptying into my yard. So I don’t suppose I will be draining this any further than the intake valves which really is kind of pointless to even bother. Unless anybody’s got any magic hacks for draining this thing. I have a pool cover pump and it’s not pulling it either. And I’ve got to drain this into the rainwater drain at the street

A submersible pump will help to empty it.

I managed to rig up some extra filter hoses and some backwash hose sections with hose clamps. Even managed to connect a backwash hose via hose clamp to that little piece of the drain valve that sticks out. It took many attempts and I came very, very close to using my chef knife to make a few drain slits, but its going good now.
