Anyone who's read my previous posts about my ex-pool guy knows I hate him more than I can say and so now I have yet another reason to send bolts of lightening his way. The pump for my pool has an air leak on the suction side. After watching a few videos on youtube, I took a hose and and covered the in port side of the pool fixture right where it enters the pump with a stream of water from the house. Shortly after that no more caviation in the pump. Take the hose away, air enters the pump. So clearly this means I have an air leak there.

So I'm going to replumb the whole supply side. Just a few quick questions.

1) I saw a video saying you should have a straight run into the pump of 5x the diameter of the pipe. True?
2) The current fixture into the pump is using white teflon tape around the threads. My thought is to use a better quality of PTFE tape, probably the yellow one, but I also understand that with PVC using tape isn't always the right choice, that a sealant would be a better choice. Suggestions?
3) I have two skimmers and a drain on the suction side. I plan on blowing out both and possibly pressure testing each. Any suggestions on what else might be good maintenance while I'm doing this job?

Thanks for your help and suggestions

Tony

Well I put junctions in several places so I can replace bits that might go bad. Here’s the new plumbing..
