Pool coping options

I recently started removing my old aggregate pool deck and I made the mistake of assuming the pool coping was concrete with aggregate on top but the aggregate is the coping. The exposed tile is anywhere from 2-2.75in from the top of the pool deck. Shouldn’t the tile be installed uniformly the same height from the top of the pool deck. So in summary and I apologize if this is a dumb question but how do I install new coping with the overhang flush to to top of tile if the tile is not all the same height? Just an FYI, I eventually want to replace the tile when I refinish my pool but I don’t have the finances to do everything at once.

I’m not sure, I’m thinking a bull nose paver. I really don’t want to redo the tile until my pool gets resurfaced in a few months. Would it be a problem if I do the coping now and the tile and resurfacing later?

Do you understand where your expansion joint is between your pool structure and your deck?

Did you have cantilevered coping that you removed?

If you change to precast coping you need to create a proper expansion joint between the pool and the deck.

Without an expansion joing the movement of the deck will eventually crack your bond beam.

Under the aggregate is was just a solid concrete slab, there was never an expansion joint and as a result there’s a crack at one end of the pool along the bond beam.

How do you intend to deal with that?

I’ve called several local pool companies and everyone says there going to come look at it and then they don’t show up. The two companies that I was referred to by friends were at least 6-8 weeks out. So that’s why I’m on this forum to get advice.

With precast coping you will need to saw cut a expansion joint deep enough to get down to the soil and decouple the deck from the bond beam.
