Started a slam now but my water went a bit cloudy by end of day for todays pool party for my 6 year old.

Is it somewhat normal for an all day splash to use enough to go bad that quickly?

I had been maintaining fc at lower end of acceptable but added a few extra litres of chlorine in advance today.

It’s not unheard of for that to happen in my experience, especially if you’re running on the low side of acceptable levels of fc.

Good thread to bring up "bather load" How many kids were in there 3? 10? 30?

Bather load will most always make a pool cloudy if it's excessive. The typical cure is chlorine elevated to twice normal after the event and it's often cleared up the next morning.

I had about 13 small kids and 5 adults for about 4hours. Lol

Brought my fc to 15 and it’s clear this morning.

I always dose a dab higher than the high target 🎯 for my cya FC/CYA Levels before parties 🎉 kids (doing who knows what) , sweaty adults, all that sunscreen- it takes extra chlorine to oxidize it. I will also check in the middle of the party if its an all day thing & definitely as soon as everyone gets out.

We're doing swim lessons with 3 littles plus their parents and instructor in the pool. Sunscreen, etc.(you all know what etc. means). Pool wasn't actually cloudy, but had seriously diminished sparkle. Tests showed FC and CC were fine, so I let the SWG and filter do their thing, and the sparkle was back the next morning. I have LC on hand in case we need a bump.
It's summer. Bather loads, heat, sun, rain... I just get back in the habit of daily testing.

loosing a bit (2ppm yesterday) of chlorine still overnight but i also checked at 6pm and not 9pm when the sun is down. my pool gets sun from 10am to sundown every day.

We were also in it for an hour after testing so I'm pretty sure we are clear.
