Been use PoolMath app, attached my current numbers. Even at the 30 mark on the CYA test the dot is faintly visible so I think I’m even lower there. It does seem like any sunlight eats up my FC pretty quick but pool looks great otherwise.

I have been using liquid chlorine to raise FC normally but I need to make a run for more today. The old owner left some trichlor tabs and the floating dispenser thing. Having read up on those, it seems like I could use some of those to bump up my FC and gradually raise my CYA? I also might end up getting an SWG to install in the coming weeks.

My other question concerns CH. It’s an older plaster pool with some signs of wear already though perfectly usable. Any suggestions on how gradually I should raise my CH? Dumping 40+ lbs of calcium chloride in seems drastic, should I just aim to get into recommended range and creep up to the ideal range?

Put your water temperature into PoolMath so your CSI can be calculated.

You need to raise your FC now. While the trichlor is slowly raising your FC algae can be taking hold in your pool.

Much better to raise your FC with liquid chlorine.

With CYA 30 your FC target is 4-6 and 2 is the minimum that you are below.

CSI is -0.05

Getting more liquid chlorine this morning. Should I get my CYA levels up as well though? Like I said, it’s below 30 for sure and any sun seems to eat through the FC.
 
Quantify eats through chlorine.

In our area the sun will burn about 2 ppm per day.

That is about 1/2 gallon of 10% chlorine per day in your pool.

Yeah that’s about right. Nothing more drastic than that I guess. I’m very new to pool ownership so wasn’t sure if it was unusual to be going through that much liquid chlorine but what I’m seeing lines up with that.

Will be ordering that SWG today
 
With liquid chlorine CYA 30-40 is fine. Once you put your SWG in get your CYA around 60.

Get your CH in the 300-350 range.

Cast and brush.

Do not add calcium chloride to a bucket of water to try and dissolve it. CH is exothermic and generates a lot of heat when put in water. So you want to put a little amount of CH at a time into a lot of water.
