Just open to a significantly low water level

I've been opening and closing myself for a couple years. I noticed over the winter the water level was slowly dropping and when I open today this is what I see. That dark blue patch has been there for probably 3 years when the diving board broke and it has held up well until we decide to do a liner change.

My first thought is the pool light. Walking around the perimeter I don't see any rips or holes where the water level is now. The stairs look fine. I would say the water level dropped 14 inches in 6 months

Edit...The light works. I was thinking the gasket around the light housing that attaches to the liner. Not the gasket for the glass

Thoughts?

Did you use a solid cover? Is it possible it displaced the water in the pool?
Do you mean that the water in the pool got pulled on top of the cover? I wouldn't think so because the cover was filled with leaves from the entire winter. It was brown and smelly water on top of the cover. I've used the same cover for 3 years and I always open clear like. I would think if there was a hole the dirty water would have gotten pulled into the pool correct?

I went in there to check the light and boy that was cold. The water level went about 1 inch below the seal on the conduit in the fixture. I guess that cancels out the seal and conduit?

And white glob of sealant below the conduit is just covering a very small circular hole from the manufacturer. The little hole is about 1/4 the size of white sealant and also about 1 inch above the water level

I don't mean that the water on top of the cover mixed with the water in the pool. I mean that as the cover fills with water it pushes down on the water in the pool. Enough water on the cover and the water in the pool has to go somewhere. In my above ground, any displaced water flows out the skimmer. Not sure if there's a place for your overflow to go.

You could add a little water (maybe an inch), mark the side of the pool at the water level with some blue painters' tape or something similar, and give it a day or two to see if it drops substantially. If so, you could do a dye test around the water line to see where it might be leaking (starting with the light).

Okay I understand what you're saying. No there's no place for the water to go.

I've also been using food dye around the light fixture and stairs with the water level as calm as possible and I can't find anything.

Did you add a little water to the pool first? If it's not actively leaking out, then the dye wouldn't do anything.
I didn't add water yet. I feel like this water level has been this low for about a month based on my camera that overlooks the pool and I could see how low the cover had dropped. I was thinking if it was still leaking around the light fixture this may have been the area where it stopped but some dye that was sitting on the water surface might still get sucked in.

But I'll add about an inch and see what happens

I had that a few years ago, it only gets as low as the leak (except some evaporation). My money is on the light, they added a bead of puddy to mine and it worked well...may have failed this winter since my water level is low but I have to wait for the trees to finish blooming before I open it up. Good luck

I grew impatient so I just filled the pool back up. I did mark the current water level when I filled the pool back up and 4 days later it hasn't gone down . I guess it's a super slow leak. We are due for a liner change maybe the end of the season or beginning of next season so I'm not going to worry about it
