So this is our second year of owning a pool. My son and I washed the main filters (they were dirty as everything). Now I can't seem to find the proper combination to get skimmers getting small particles on top like last year. Suction is good on skimmers and water is punping great that we have cleaned coming out of closure season. Water is heating up just trying to get everything right.

You want the valve in the 1st pic by the pump lid to be about 90% skimmers. Right now it's 50/50 in the middle. Small floaties can be stubborn in finding their way to the skimmer. Have most of your suction there and be patient. :)

Buff,

Please show us pics of all three valves that are in front of your pump as they are right now...

Tell us if your skimmer has a weir door between the pool and the skimmer basket. There should be a little "door" that floats up and down with the water level. It can get stuck up, or down, causing issues. See what you have and let us know.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Buff,

With the pump running, go look at the skimmer in your pic and make sure the weir door (between the pool and the skimmer basket) is moving up and down with the water. Make sure that the weir doors on both skimmers are working.

As a test, shut off the main drain. To do that point the word OFF on the valve handle directly at the main-drain pipe. Then go see how the skimmers are working.

As another test, with the main drain shut off, shut off the far skimmer and see how well the near skimmer works. Then shut off the near skimmer and see how well the far skimmer works. The idea of this test is to ensure each skimmer is working.

If the skimmers are working better with the main drain shut off, you can just leave it that way or open the main drain 5 or 10%.

With a single-speed pump you should have plenty of skimmer action.

Thanks,

Jim R.

I shut off main drain both have basically vortex on them. Still not picking up light particles like last year. It's the one closest to the tanning ledge and bubbler. When I divert all to it weir door doesn't flap. I will mention that one has a skim a round. The skimmer closest to shallow end was tight with regular baskets and had no issues last year. Just removed door on skim a round picking up a little other not grabbing either.
