SLAM and cloudy water

Hi all! I’ve taken over pool maintenance from my husband after a few years, and I’m trying to get everything back on track. It was green/ black and swampy with debris covering the pool floor. Here’s what I’ve done lately:

26 Apr: measured pH at 7.8, which is what comes out of our tap also. Tested salt with test strips at 4140. Drained about 1/3 of the pool and refilled.

27 Apr: added CYA to 35. Added 10% bleach to 16.

27 Apr - 1 May: continued SLAM, checking levels 3-4 times a day and vacuuming/ brushing. Running filter 24 hrs a day.

1 May: discovered I had input the volume incorrectly low to poolmath (10000 instead of 17000 gallons), and all my additions were being calculated low. Added CYA to bring level to 60 and bleach to bring FC to 24.

1 May - 3 May: continued SLAM.

Now the pool isn’t green anymore, and there’s little to no debris on the floor that the vacuum picks up. I’ve had to backwash twice. The water remains cloudy though. CC measures 0.5-1 throughout the day. Overnight I lost 3-4 ppm FC last night.

Is there anything I could be missing, or is it taking the time to clear the water that could be expected after high neglect?

pH: 7.8
TA: 70
CH: 75
CYA: 65
Salt: 2980 (will need to increase to about 3150)
FC: continuing to bump to 24
CC: 0.5-1

Patience. The tail end can be the hardest. But also know we don't try to split the CYA. We round up. So consider your CYA 70 and increase the FC to 28. Maintain and continue the brushing and/or vacuuming as needed. You'll get there.
