We have the pentair Ultratemp heat pump and Easytouch 4 for controller. I had been using the simple thermostat based control in the heater, but would like to limit the heater to run only during the day. As the PB didn't connect via rs485 during construction I'll do that. However, reading through the ET4 manual, I'm not sure I see the path from "here to there" to do what I'd like, assuming it is in fact possible with that combo.

Reading the manual and googling I get a vague notion that using a solar mode in the ET4 may be part of the mix, but was hoping someone here could clarify for me a bit?

To make the ET work with the UltraTemp via RS-485 it requires a 10K temperature sensor be connected to the ET solar sensor connection. Or you can use a 10K resistor.

The manual says: Note: Solar temperature sensor could be left loose in load center. The automation system does not use the temperature reading but just looks for resistance.

Thanks for that nugget, I had definitely missed that in my here and there reading various sections of the manual.

OK, I have the RS485 cable connected I believe properly, and a 10k resistor across the solar temp terminals (ordered an actual thermistor in case it proves to be useful).

Now, just need to sort out programming. Been reading relevant manual sections and browsing through ET4 menu sections, back and forth. I'm usually pretty good with manuals, electronics, software, programming, but have to admit, this has made me scratch my head more than once.

If anyone has some practical advice on how to approach the ET4 setup I'm all ears. Ultimate goal is to have the Ultratemp run only during warmest daylight hours, say noon-6p, and only when set temp demands it.

Let's see if @Jimrahbe can help with the ET programming.

R,

Do you have ScreenLogic?? I do not have a heater, or a Spa, but I use the EasyTouch to control my standalone Spa. You can see by the following Screenshot, that you can set a schedule for the heater that has a different set points, depending on the time.

It seems to me you can just schedule your heater to run between the hours you want.

Have you tried to schedule your heater?

Thanks,

Jim R.

I do not have screenlogic and that's probably a large part of my difficulty. Navigating the control center menus and translating the manual into actionable steps has made me question my intelligence. I probably just need a dose of patience... this is going to be a learning curve I guess.

But, the suggestion to use scheduling seems all too obvious. When searching on this topic previously that never came up as an option so I "assumed" that for some reason it wasn't and would be more complex. I think I'll take the time to go through the manual in a little more methodical fashion, that will probably help.

Still stumped. In the manual I find some info on setting the heater to run on a schedule by setting the pump to come on at those times, which enables heater to run to set temp. But we are using a VS pump that currently runs continuously, varying speed depending on whether infinity spill and/or water feature spills are on or not. Hoping there is a way to not have to turn pump on and off just to keep heater from running. Maybe it's still possible by scheduling, but I can't find it in manual or settings menus on the ET in a way that I recognize as being that?
