Last season I diligently drained the pump and left the drain plug out. Gone to recommission and the plug won’t tighten on the thread; just spins round just as it’s almost tight, and I can pull it straight out.

Bolt threads look OK so I assume the plastic pump body threads have stripped.. any ideas on how to fix that don’t involve a new pump?
I wondered if I could use Fernox LS-X or similar to seal it in, but not sure on the pressure at the bottom of the filter pot

If the drain plug pulls right out I don't think any sealing paste will hold it in.

But what do you have to lose by giving it a try?

Worst case you are gettting that new pump.

When you disconnect your old pump you can get a closer look at the drain hole and see what is going on with the threads. It may provide better ideas if a fix is possible.

It’s hard to photo without a complete dismount but looks pretty stripped. I suspect someone before my ownership has used a sealant on it (yellow colour). Probably the “professional” who maintained it
