See below weather forecast for weekend. Any issues opening up the pool this weekend just to have it ready to go when it starts getting warmer? Few days where it dips down then it starts to get warmer mid next week. Would be nice to have it all ready to go to turn up the heat for a nice weekend. Plus I just hate having it closed, ha! Thanks for the help!

You are free to open at will. Anyone who doesn't this time of year for us simply doesn't want to maintain the pool until they have to.

If the weather has one last hurrah of cold coming in 2 weeks, just run the pump while it's freezing temps and you'll be fine. It will take the pool several days to cool and the plubling (which could freeze if off) will be rushing like Niagra Falls which has never froze.

I'm open already in Wisconsin. The only days to worry about from the forecast are the lows in the 20s/30s. As long as you keep the pump running so the water is moving during those nights you'll be fine.

I run my pump (on low) 24/7 until the danger of freezing is passed. Like you I don't like seeing my pool closed. :D

Thank you! For those cold nights do you have the heater on or just make sure to keep the pump running?

The only heat I have is solar, so it's not doing anything at night. :D I just make sure to keep the pump running. Like Newdude mentions above, the fast moving water through the pipes won't freeze as it keeps mixing with the still-warmer pool water.

It takes sustained, cold temperatures to freeze a large body of water like a pool. A night in the 20s isn't going to do it. The real risk is if the pump is off, then you have a small volume of water in the pipes/equipment just sitting there that could freeze and cause damage. As long as that water keeps moving/mixing you're fine.

Pfffffffffft. Rookie. I run my pump on low until the danger of freezing RETURNS. :ROFLMAO:
:ROFLMAO: I would run mine 24/7, but I use solar and don't have automation. So (unless I bypass the solar) I don't want the pump running at night, turning the panels into a heat sink/cooler. It's easier to let the pump turn off by itself at 7'ish then it is to go outside and turn the valve to bypass the solar.

I partially open mine this time of year. By partially, I mean I connect all the equipment and start it up. I leave my safety cover on until the main part of pollen season is finished.

moving water cant freeze so your equipment will be fine......
Just to be clear, it can, but requires sustained low temperatures. Basically you need the entire body of water to be cold enough such that there is no longer a supply of warmer water to replace the colder water.

Don’t try to leave your pool open in Wisconsin in January. It will freeze.

Well said.... I forgot everyone doesn't have the size pool I have..... I bet if I left my pump on all winter here in MN I could circulate the water until the pump cover cracks that's my guess.... Go Vikes

Ummm...not sure on that one. Thought about opening early this year since I need to close early in fall, but with the basically cooler weather we've been having, what's the point? I'll be away a good part of May regardless, so would just need someone to take care of things while not getting to use the pool anyway. Probably will wind up doing the usual Memorial Day (or thereabouts) opening. IF I were here most of next month, I'd seriously consider an opening next week sometime. Have never opened in April, or even early May for that matter. Typically travel early to mid-May so it just never worked our real well.
