Have a 17500 gallon plaster pool, pebble finish. I have finally got the water balance to match the TFP levels and am going to go SWCG instead of my liquid regimen. I am leaning towards the IC60 (only because researching these things is like researching mattresses to me).

I would like to re-do some plumbing when installing the IC and would love to see pics of your set-ups for some ideas. It might be that mine is laid out fine, but I don't think so. I see a mix of pressure and non-pressure fittings and just think the previous owner whipped it together before selling the house. I'll post some pics later, but it used to be a DE filter and is now a sand filter. Pump is 1.5 HP constant speed.

Thanks for any pics or other advice as I plan my IC purchase.

My initial thought was that an IC60 might be a bit oversized, as the general recommendation is to select a system rated for double the pool volume. However, since the IC60 has a higher rate of production, you'll be able to cut down on runtimes with the bigger cell. In theory, if the cell lives a full life, you'll pay about 20% more but get 50% more chlorine out of the IC60 vs a 40K rated SWG.

Have you considered a VS pump? If so, it would make sense to purchase the pump at the same time so you can sort out plumbing and electrical for both components at the same time.

If you have future thoughts of automation, select components that will be compatible with pump and SWG choices.

If it's important to you, compare warranties between Pentair and other manufacturers. Pentair's warranty is limited to two years on parts for DIY installs on "E-Commerce" products. These components will show an "EC" preceding the model number. In comparison, the Circupool RJ-Series carry a seven-year prorated warranty.

Good luck on the install!

I would recommend a change to VS pump also.. The IC60 and just about all Pentair is great, my first pump and filter were Pentair.. I went to a V Green pump when I changed my motor for VS and I went Circupool for the DIY warranty of 7 years... The RJ60 is cheaper than the IC60 and outputs more chlorine at 3.1 pounds per day.. My SJ45 lasted 7 years... I now have the RJ60 and should easily last that long as I am running it less than the 45.. :)

I have 15-16k pebble, and went with Edge-40. Very happy with it. Running it at 25% for 8 hours and keeping up fine. Went with it since it runs at lower power during full 8 hours (not cycling between 100% and off), and also replacement cell cost.

Thanks for the input! I may consider a VS pump when the 1.5 dies, but for now sticking with constant speed.

I will check out the circupool RJ, the 7 year warranty appeals to me.

I went from single speed pump with separate booster pump, to 2 speed with electric robot, to VS, to SWG. Had I known 10 years ago, VS, robot, and SWG would have been done year 1! Edge series also has 7 year warranty.

Here you go. I went with the largest SWCG I could get so I don't have to run my pump for long periods of time. Best pool investment EVER. 1649088078252.png

It appears the line on left of 2nd photo goes to pool, what are the smaller lines left of "Y" doing? Good spot for SWG cell at the ugly painted pipe on left if there's space.

You are correct. I was thinking that might be my best spot. Lines to left are makeup feed and feed to domestic hose bib on porch above.

I'm 99% sure I'm going to go with the RJ60+. When doing the install, I plan on plumbing a bypass as well since it's easy. The bypass will run straight. does this drawing look correct? Also, is there any advantage to using sweep 90's and wye type fittings, or are regular 90's and tees the same?

And works fine if it's broke. Only reason to remove is to replace or clean. Cleaning is quick, no need for a bypass. Measure twice, cut once.

In my system, I have 1.5" supply and 2 " return. The return splits underdround to two 1" lines tothe pool. The variflo valve is 1.5". Tge outlet on the pump is 1.5. Should that have been a 2" pump and variflo?

Ordered the rj60 along with bypass fitting as suggested above, and it should be here today. Finishing up a SLAM, went to mustard level for 24 hours, 2 days later FC dropping nicely. CYA has also dropped along with CH which I just recently raised from 190 to 350? Somehow it had dropped to 290 in 2 weeks? I have no leaks and haven't backwashed much. I added more calcium last night to get back to 350. CYA was at 120 when I covered the pool over winter. I kept the filter running and water balanced. Not understanding the CYA drop, but also not looking a gift horse in the mouth. Water is clearer than ever. I bought the house last fall so this is my first opening season. My readings last night:

FC 16 (had it up to 40 during mustard slam, which was higher than supposed to be, I must have made a mistake)
TA 80
CH 350
CYA 40
pH 7.6
Temp ~75

I have a salt test kit and speed stir coming from TFT in the mail today. Other than salt, is there anything else I need to be aware of or test for before installing the SWCG and adding salt? Thanks!

Read the instructions carefully regarding the "endpoint" for the salt test. Stop at the first color change that holds.

Wait 24 hours after adding salt before testing levels. Dump salt in shallow end and use a pool brush to agitate. Don't use Clorox brand salt due to reports of iron contamination.
