Never got the pool cover on last year. NH leaves are brutal. Started skimming leaves today. I have a new intex sand filter I just received. Would it be advantageous to also run my old cartridge filter alongside it. They are both 2500 gph. I put two gallons of bleach in today and it starting foaming pretty bad while the water circulated.

Welcome to TFP! The filter set-up won't be the deal-breaker in your scenario. With algae, accurately and thoroughly performing the SLAM Process is absolutely key. Follow that page with a proper test kit (TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C) and you'll make great progress. To increase and maintain the proper SLAM FC level based on your CYA (see FC/CYA Levels), be sure to use liquid chlorine. Regular bleach (not scented or splashless) will also work. Good luck!

What size is your pool? You may wanna dump it & start over. There will still be lots of scooping involved.
& You would still need to SLAM Process after refilling but it won’t take nearly as long as your current swamp.

It's 10000 gallons. It cost almost 600$ to have water delivered last time....... I'm not on city water and I don't want to destroy my well. I was hoping to avoid that.

Since drain/refill is off the table.
Until your kit arrives u can add 5ppm of liquid chlorine daily to keep it from getting worse & to put a little sanitizer in the water while u are busy touching & scooping. Use PoolMath to calculate amounts. A sturdy pole & deep leaf net will be your best friends for a while. A leaf gulper is handy too - for all the blind vacuuming.

You wanna get as much organic debris out as possible before starting the slam as it will rapidly consume your chlorine.

You had me at 'Got a swamp'

Pics did not disappoint. :)

We got you.

As fruitless as it will seem at times, all that crud needs removing. Scoop leaves until you can't scoop no more and then deputize a kid. Then the next kid.

When I did my SLAM it got better shades of green, which enabled me to eventually see the bottom, but it chewed through FC until that last patch of crud came out.

Another day another bushel of leaves. Both pumps kicking it hard. Have a big pond pump that really moves water seems to help group the leaves towards the middle to scoop. Added another 2 gallons of bleach. I know its just going to be eaten up but I still don't have my Test kit and I was hoping to clear it up enough to see the leaves.

I had a feeling. Reason I asked was that since we know you are gong to run a SLAM Process for algae, the elevated FC level could aggravate the iron in the water. That's a great time to stuff your skimmer with polyfill and/or consider running a supplemental polyfill filter to help catch iron while it's precipitating out and can be caught. Remove as much iron as you can now could make your swim season much easier.

Backwashed my sand filter and decided to pour 3 more gallons of bleach in to try and push it to the point I could somewhat see through it. Still no test kit yet I probably should have spent the extra money and gone through amazon.......Then came the foam. Is this okay?

There is usually some foam but that seems excessive. What kind of bleach are you using ? You need plain, unscented, so splashles, no color max, no nothing bleach. All of those have polymers which will foam alot like the pic.

It's the 12.5 % pool bleach from walmart
Ok, PHEW. It looks like laundry soap foam, much less the wrong kind of bleach foam. Skim off whatever you can with a net. Hopefully it's just normal and more foam than we are used to.
