I'd suggest looking at your robot and inline chlorinator lid. Its perfectly round when flattened, right??

If it was in the pump basket, then it came in from intake line.
Edit.. I like Maddie's idea that it is from a tab feeder lid. I've never had a tab-feeder so not even sure what the lid looks like, but assume there has to be a seal at the lid end.

The in-line chlorinator is a Pentair Rainbow. Way too skinny to fit that o-ring. The vacuum is Pentair Rebel and also has nothing of that size. Yes, it appears circular when flattened.
About 6” in diameter. I think I figured out where it may have come from. The filter area in the pool below the basket.

What brand is your skimmer?
What numbers and letters are on the inside of your skimmer lid?

It’s a custom lid called Pour-a-lid with my coping in it. Nothing on the inside or in anywhere in it.

I had no idea it was that big! I am shocked it made into the skimmer pipe, much less through the pipe and into your pump basket.
I suggest that you run out a buy some lotto tickets.
Do you have a floating diverter valve that sits below your skimmer basket? Looks like a little spaceship. Or maybe part of a vac plate that adapts the skimmer for vacuum use?

So I just realized this may play a role. I replaced my basket with the Skim-A-Round. So there’s nothing between the bottom of the skimmer basket and the suction out.S,

Why would you do that? Does your skimmer not have a weir door?

I did it about 3 years ago. I do have a weir door still. I did it after several people recommend it. I haven’t had any problems (I know of) yet. Until this o-ring came off. Maybe with the skim-a-round I don’t need an o-ring. I’m going to contact the company.

If the O-Ring came off of the bottom of the skimmer, I don't believe that you really need it unless you have floating diverter valve.

If you put the wrong basket in a Hayward skimmer the suction puts too much down pressure on the skimmer basket that eventually cracks the support ring.
I took 3 photos of wider view but I cannot upload them on here, too large a size.
