So I asked a young man to help me out with my pool and he put 3 boxes of washing soda in instead of 3 boxes of borax. I try to keep the boron ppm at around 30-40 and he was trying to help.

Pool is completely cloudy and the ph is through he roof. Help.

I think I may need over 2 gallons if pool math is right
It probably isn't. Large pH changes are difficult to calculate accurately and PoolMath get progressively less accurate as the adjustments get larger.

I'd stick with adding half a gallon at a time, waiting 30-60 minutes, and repeating until you get a reading. Accidentally sending the pH through the roof isn't nearly as concerning as accidentally crashing it.

220 oz of washing soda will raise the TA by 97.

To get back to the same TA as before adding the washing soda, you will need 395 oz (3.1 gallons) of 31.45% acid.

I think that you can add at least half that amount (1.5 gallons) and then retest pH and TA.

What was the TA before adding the washing soda?

What was the TA after adding the washing soda?

The TA this morning is 120. The ph is 7.4. The pool is still cloudy but much less so than it was. I’m going to drop the pool to 7.2 and continue aerating. Does that sound right?
