Waiting on test kit.

Do you have ladder? Light? Auto refill can? Scrub everything! My slam went 3 days longer than necessary because I had algae in the tubes of my ladder and didn’t think of that. Took them out, scrubbed, passed OCLT.

look everywhere & scrub!

+ 1 !!! Also J, don’t get discouraged that you aren’t there yet. This is the easy part when the pool is mostly holding FC, unlike the beginning of most SLAMs that blow through gallons of LC and require babysitting. Enjoy the easier stage and stay the course. Far too many people end a hair too early and go right back to square one in a few weeks.

Do it once. Do it right. You got this !!

No ladders, just 3 small led lights, returns, polaris connection and 1 skimmer. Is there a way to remove the lights to check in there?

That’s a mighty fine pool J. Would consider it an honor to help make it finer and trouble free. :)

Will this do for now?
That is helpful. I couple thoughts.
1) Your target for slam is 16FC at CYA of 40. when you test and add Chlorine, I would use PoolMath to tell you how much chlorine to add to get to 16. Having your FC higher than your target is waste of $$ (won't help) and potentially could damage your pool (liner).
2) Slams just take longer when you are testing 2-4x a day. You may not be able to do it, but if you can test and reset FC every two hours it will go faster. With the frequency you are doing this, this is GREAT progress for 5 days!!!

If u are already paying for a poolmath subscription it is very handy to log your additions- it will allow you to look at summaries of specific date ranges etc. so u can see how much bleach you have used etc. along with other maintenance things like backwashing , adding water, or expenses.

Well I've met all 3 criteria to end the SLAM. Woohoo! So now I'm adding stabilizer in increments to get to 70 and running my pump 24 hrs until I get there. Should I go ahead and start up my SWCG to help with the chlorine production and getting it dialed in?

Yup. The FC may burn off quicker than the SWG can produce it in the meantime so check the FC throughout the day to ensure you don’t get low. 10A and 2P would be great if you are available for those times. If not, do the best you can and keep the FC a tad hot to leave some wiggle room.

You would need to run your SWG@100% for 12hrs or at 50% for 24hrs. This will produce 3 ppm of FC which is about regular consumption rate of many pools.
Thanks for that info! Exactly what I was wondering. I'm hoping to keep the pump running 12 hrs a day so isn't that kinda bad for the the SWG to have to work that hard? Or is this pretty typical run time/percentage for a SWG? I understand the need to keep the FC in check and to do whatever it takes. Does this mean my SWG is undersized?

The SWG is either on or off. It doesn’t care about whatever runtime you select. It even does the maths for you. Thoughtful little bugger. ;)

They are rated for pool volume assuming 100% runtime. If you go bigger (which you did) you can produce the same daily FC in less hours running. Again, the cell doesn’t care either way but it’s a nice option for you to be able to run 12 hours or less, instead of 24.

A SWG its either On or Off. The % is how much time its on/off. The coating on the plates is a finite thing, so just run with it. That is why we recommend 2X on Swg size. I run mine 12hrs@20%, but mine is 4X oversized.

This is probably a dumb question but why does the OTO chlorine test show a very very pale yellow (which looks like no chlorine) but when I use the TF 100 for FC it is 10? Should that pale yellow concern me or should I only be concerned with the FC/CC?
