Is this Mustard Algae or something else? I had algae before and it was green and filter would be green. The stuff I'm seeing at the bottom of the pool is more of a yellowish brown color as in the filter. I have scrubbed to the pool several times. My chlorine is high because I recently shocked it. My pH is 7.5 and my alkalinity is 80. I have vacuumed it out a few times with the filter out of the pump and just emptied that water out of the pool. Is it possible to use a flocculent and then just throw the filter away that I use with the flocculent or will it ruin any other components of the pump?

It could be Mustard algae. Even if it is, unless your pool is less than 3,000 gallons in size, the way to kill algae for good is to follow the SLAM Process. No amount of filtration or occasional chlorine bombs is going to remove it correctly. The SLAM Process works, but you have to follow the details on that page carefully and test/maintain the proper elevated FC level by using either a TF-100 or Taylor K-2006C test kit.

Look over those links and also the info below. If you have any questions, let us know.
