Just great, for some reason I have now developed some type of hyper-sensitivity to chlorine and suffer from chlorine rash every time I am in the pool.

Yes, I make sure to shower before jumping into the pool and my pool levels are within the ideal ranges across the board. My FC is usually between 4-6 since I have a SWG. pH always around 7.6 as well.

It's just me that experiences this. No one else in my family get this reaction when in the pool.

I was wondering if dropping FC to around 2 a good idea to try? Less chlorine, so maybe I will tolerate it better.

Or you guys have any other ideas to help with this?

Same reaction to tap water? Most tap water has more active chlorine in it than your pool water right now.

With 0 CYA. So many times more active chlorine than your pool water.

Typically skin sensitivity is from CC, low/high pH, sunscreen, etc.
🤔 So with a CYA of 75, what FC level would be the equal of FC 1 with a CYA of 0?

In other words, at what FC should I try to maintain my pool that would be the equivalent of my tap water? Since I don't get these hives and rashes when showring.

How do you know for sure that the rash has anything to do with the chlorine?

Because it only happens when I jump in the pool and am in the pool for at least 30 minutes. I start itching and eventually they turn red, hives pop up and they become tender to the touch.

Does not happen when showering in between days that I use the pool (aka. during the week).

Whatever it is, it's in the pool.

Ok, but that does not prove that it's the chlorine causing the problem.
I see, what else can it be? I'm the only one that gets the reaction. I thought maybe swimmer's rash but with FC averaging 6, I doubt it is somw type of parasite in the water.

You are probably the only one who is sensitive to the low level bacteria that’s going on. I’d SLAM for a few days and see if you can clear it.

Something is in the water and it isn’t the chlorine.

EDIT - my eyeball level was off - I say about 80 ppm FC.

Mother of God! 😀 Man, that's an eye opener. Thanks for the info.

BTW, I added acid to lower the pH to 7.2

Let's see if this helps with my rashes. It never happened before, so I need to figure out what it could be. Like you guys said, it might not be the chlorine after all, since tap water has more and it doesn't affect me.

I just had a friend who had a daughter that had something similar. They thought it was sunscreen or chlorine. I asked what else she adds to pool. She was adding pool magic and pool perfect. She stopped adding those 2 things and only uses regular stuff like: liquid chlorine, baking soda, muriatic acid and she has not had the rash since.
What chemicals do you use in ur pool now? List them all maybe it’s one of them causing it.

I use these 3 to maintain my pH, CYA and CH:

I add NOTHING else.

Just read this:
Calcium chloride is added to pools to keep the water hard. This protects the surfaces of the pool from corrosion. Some researchTrusted Sourcesuggests that calcium in hard water may damage the skin barrier, increasing skin dryness and irritation.

Not sure if that’s the issue but maybe try to keep ur CH on the lower recommended end like 250. Anyone have any other thoughts.

I don't think that it is from calcium

Maybe a skin infection that only flares up when the skin absorbs a lot of water which won't happen in a shower, but it can happen in the pool.

Maybe check with a dermatologist.
