New pool, been set up about 3 weeks now. Been crystal clear until probably 2 days ago. Now has a slight bluish tint to the water. I don't have a good test kit yet but will be ordering one tonight. Pool store said add algaecid and chlorine.
Thanks for the reply! Haven't gotten around to filling out much info on here yet. Ill read the abc's for sure!Welcome to the forum!
Blue tinted water is odd for algae. What test kit did you order?
What type of pool do you have? Can you fill out your signature?
I suggest you read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry.
Ever heardvof simple blue pool program? You add their powder mix once a week and 2 chlorine pucks to the skimmer. Barely any chlorine and they claim it works but here we are! After coming across this site i think ill stick with you guys! 18×33×54 above ground pool. 16000 gallons. I did add a gallon of liquid pool chlorine. Being a large aquarium owner for 20+ years i know how important a good test kit is. I need it soonSkip the algaecide. Most of them contain copper, and that's what stains liners and turns hair green.
Nearly all water issues are the result of insufficient chlorine. You can safely add 3 ppm of chlorine per day by using plain old laundry bleach. Just be sure it's not the scented or splashless kind. Just regular bleach. Use the Pool Math app to determine how much bleach to add to raise your FC by 3 ppm for the volume of your pool. Read the label to determine the concentration of chlorine in the bleach. If it doesn't say, it's probably 6.5%. If you buy the liquid chlorine for pools, it is often 10%. Just figure how much you need of each and see which is cheapest.
Once you get your test kit, post the readings and we can give better advice from there. But this should carry you for now without things getting much worse.
