So our in ground Pebble finish pool was filled with water on Saturday and Sunday ( city water). I've read all the stuff, pool builder is supposed to be here each day for 7 days ( he isn't) to brush, vacuum, balance. Sends person who acts like they aren't sure of what they are doing. Left me a test kit ( tubes droppers etc)
So I am trying. Maybe 15,000 gallons. Pool helper put some chlorine in today, dunno how much, but it was sitting in a white clump on the waterfall ledge when I got home. Nice...
So I tested. Ph is maxed at 8.2, TA is at 30. Thinking I should add this Clorox Pool Alkalinity Increaser before we go to bed. Maybe 2 cups?
No one else seems to care but me. Am I worrying too much 3 days in?
.

First you need your own proper test kit. See Test Kits Compared

For now, that TA is really low for a start up. You should add some baking soda, which is what that Clorox stuff is. Overpriced but you have it. Add enough to get TA to 70 ppm.

Each day lower your pH to 7.6 or so with acid. Be sure to add it at a pool return, pump running, and brush the area really well after adding.

I’m in a similar boat as the OP. It seems my PB isn’t engaged in pool chemistry and the initial impressions of the pool company they use to manage the water for the first 30 days leaves a lot to be desired.

I of course don’t want to do anything to jeopardize my new plaster. But like the OP, my pH is sky high. Is it okay to begin adding acid this soon?

@Golfsmith2000 @texasAUtiger the PBs are responsible for the first 30 days but if it just so happens to be balanced when they come to check…….. (wink wink). Well, one of their guys must have stopped by. You sure didn’t do it. You’ve had the pool for a week and you don’t even KNOW to do. *giggles*.
