Iowa Vinyl Pool

The tennis ball looks as clean as when I dropped it in there... 🤷‍♀️ So black algae
They take time to suck up the oily film floating on the surface. Like days worth of time. They are more of a preventative helper (going forward) and not a today cure. The existing oils are sticking to the skimmers and then attracting whatever dust/dirt/floaties are also floating around. Kinda like how an armor-all’d dashboard stays clean for all of 5 seconds because the dust that would have blown off then sticks to the dashboard. But boy is it shiny for those 5 seconds. lol.

Also, I never noticed mine to be black or otherwise discolored. Upon picking up they would drip small oil spill like rainbows if they were saturated. If rinse them off and put em right back to duty

That ring around the inside if your skimmer is most likely oils from swimmers and sunblock. It wipes easily off with a wet paper towel. I get it all of the time. I use a magic eraser. Nothing to worry about.

I ask because when I turn off the pump, drop LC, scrub it's fine but then I turn on the pump and the black line starts accumulating. I think it's passing by the infected weir door and continuing to grow. Just a guess...

Also Snoo, if it’s oils collecting in the skimmer it is also sticking at the water line around the pool, but less concentrated. Wipe the border area and give it time to gum up again. It’ll probably take a few swipes at it over the next few days. :)

Also also……. (Hey I’m a spaz. Whattayawant?? :ROFLMAO:)

Due to similar oil slicks I quickly enacted a hardcore no swimming until they could prove that the sunblock was dry rule. Sorry !!! That arm/leg is still shiny !! Come back in 5 when it’s dry and you aren’t glistening. The sunblock still came off, but not nearly as bad.

Also just so you know, the outside of the skimmer doesn't have the line and neither of the deep end white steps have the line.

The outside of the skimmer won’t ‘trap’ the oils nearly as bad for them to accumulate. Neither will the stairs or border line. It will still be there too but not nearly as concentrated.

Pool noodles will help bull-water-doze the oil slick to the skimmers to be caught by the tennis balls / skimmer.

Seriously……. Is there anything they CAN’T do ??

Ok I just watched a video about the weir doors... the inside of the skimmer was dirty and had the lighter greasy look but not the dark stripe like I had this morning. Honestly, we've hardly been in the last few days...

That looks a little thicker than mine but you have had a lot of construction around the pool so that may be dirt and dust along with the grease. I have an auto cover and mine still gets the black accumulation even with little use. That just doesn’t look like black algae to me but I will defer to the experts.
