Hi, everyone.

We were just heading into the biggest outdoor holiday of the year and wouldn't you know my Aquarite system is on the blink. Again. :(

Everything seemed fine a day ago. Normal chlorine, if a little on the low side. Today, zero, zip.

Aquarite controller's LCD panel (the numbers) seem to function properly though the instant salt level reads zero. (Puzzling, but for another thread.)

The No Flow LED light works as normal (comes on when I power up the unit then goes off in a few seconds), but the Power LED light does not light nor do any others. The switch is set to Superchlorinate, for instance, but the Super Chlorinate LED light is does not light.

Any help, anyone?

For AquaRite, move the switch from auto to off and check all of the readings.

Move the switch back to auto and recheck the readings.

Move the switch to off for a minute and then back to auto and recheck the readings.

Switching the unit off and then back on makes the unit reverse polarity.

Report all readings.

What are the first seven characters of the cell and box serial numbers?

What is the actual salinity and how are you measuring it?

What is the T-cell size?

Is the T-cell size set correctly in settings?

To get the performance percentage of the cell in each polarity, divide the instant salinity reading in each polarity by the actual salinity reading.

For example, if the instant reading is 3,300 ppm and the actual salinity reading is 3,300 ppm, then the salt cell is working at 100%.

However, if the actual salinity was 3,800 ppm, then the performance percentage is 86.8%.

Anything over 75% is acceptable.

At75%, or lower, in either polarity, it's time to consider replacing the cell.

The instant salinity in both polarities should be about the same (+/- about 200 ppm).

You need to be really sure about the actual salinity reading.

You need to use a K-1766 salt test kit or a calibrated meter.

Note that ProLogic, AquaLogic and AquaPlus use the Hayward T Cell.

However, the procedure to get the diagnostic readings is different.

Here is the procedure for ProLogic, AquaLogic and AquaPlus:

Go to the diagnostic screen, note the readings and then press the + button to reverse the polarity.

When the new numbers appear, see what they are.

Then, press + again and note the new readings.
 
I should've included this info in the original post:

The cell is a brand new T-15. Opted for the larger one for our 25k gallon pool hoping that a lower generating setting would keep the (very expensive) cell working longer than the smaller cells. We previously have used the T-09. The controller is set for this cell.

auto then off:
3600, 84, 13.0, 0.00, 100p, -0, AL-1, r1.58, t-15

back to auto:
3600, 84, 12.8, 0.00, 100p, -0, AL-1, r1.58, t-15

back to off reads same

back to auto reads same

no LEDs at all. Only LCD.

I don't think it's an issue with the cell, as it's brand new and was functioning great up until the controller seems to have partially burnt out. :(

But I would be very interested in any device you have that could help me check the controller. Can you email me?

measure the input AC (120 or 240 )?

measure the output of the transformer AC (should be around 30V)

measure the DC voltage after the bridge rectifier (the black and red wire connect on the upper right side of the board) .

@JamesW Guess I was wrong.

We are not exactly friends with the local Hayward folks and the reason is very obvious.

My understanding is if the cell is bought online, you get 1 year warranty, and if you buy from their store, it is 3 year warranty.

Some store also add 1 year warranty on their own.

The longer I work in this industry, the less I know.

The generic aquarite we are using does not have thermistor, it has a soft start feature.

I often get those models crossed in my head.
 
The warranty is based on the first number of the serial number.

All original W3T-CELL-15 cells should start with a "3" and they have a 3 year warranty regardless of where you purchase them.

The serial numbers that start with a 1 are not intended for sale, they are intended to be used as warranty replacement cells when a warranty claim is made and a new cell is provided to replace a failed cell under warranty.
