preparing for full water turn-over

You said you were considering replaster in the future! I guess it only changes to Near Future!

I'm really not sure how to handle this. another 5k for a full replaster isn't in the budget right now, especially after I just paid 5k to get the acid wash done and rocks painted. we were hoping to get maybe 4 more years out of this and then when we do replaster get the rocks taken out and switch to a more traditional coping.

is there anywhere other than tftestkits to get more DPD powder quickly? wasn't planning on having to do this slam and now I'm worried I'm going to run out...

also, i know clarifier isn't recommended in general, but is there any reason not to try a few oz in this case? I've been doing this with the pump running non stop for 5 days and while there has been improvement, the water is still slightly cloudy and I was really hoping to swim this weekend for the 4th...wondering if maybe the cloudiness that is left is the leftover paint that was dumped into the water that the filter is just having issues with, that clarifier might help with (construction debris?)

You can try Amazon.

If you are absolutely sure that you have no algae, can pass multiple OCLT in a row, then a quality clarifier can be tried. SeaKlear Chitosan is a quality product.

I am always able to get DPD powder at Amazon with next day delivery.

my issue is that tomorrow is the 4th of july, obviously. was hoping somewhere local, but i didn't see any at leslies when i ran over there earlier.

the more frustrating part is that with how much clearer the water has gotten during the SLAM, this last little bit of cloudiness just won't seem to budge. i'm going on two full days now with the water not improving at all, or at least if it is it's improving so little that it's really not noticeable.

You'll be hard-pressed to find it in a store.

If you're up for a drive, I just received received a 1/4 pound of R-0870 powder. I'd be more than happy to give you some. I'm in the Alta Loma area, north of the 210.

PM me if you're interested.

if I get to the point where I am going to run out I will do just that, thanks! I think right now I probably have 20 or so tests left...trying to stretch that out until I can get some here from Amazon on Monday or Tuesday.

edit: looking now, even with prime it looks like the earliest i can get any here from amazon is wednesday. at that rate i might as well just order from tftestkits and it gets here when it gets here. i may have to take you up on that offer...

It might just be time to crack open the filter and clean it out. Usually these problems are the filters holding back the progress. You also may want to soak the cartridges while you're at it since what you are going through isn't the typical for a pool filter.

I've opened the filter and hosed off the cartridges three times during this for exactly that reason. last time I did it was yesterday afternoon and there wasn't much on them (the first few days they were obviously quite dirty)...

well, OCLT indicates there is still *something* in the water consuming chlorine. tested at 9:30pm and again at 3:30am, FC dropped by 2.0. ugh.
When you get to a good OCLT you want more then 6 hours. You know at 6 hours this time you failed but if it hadn't @3:30 you should have done it again before sun up giving some more time. Remember filter would need to be on minimum for 30 minutes before testing.

Check behind your pool light and also the skimmer weir door. Also check in any ladders or railings.
Algae likes to hide in those places.

the problem there is that I'm not generally up before sunrise. I don't go to bed til 11 or 12 and the sun comes up at 6...if I were up that early I'd be dead tired all day for work. this weekend just happened to work out because I was still awake at 330 because of the holiday...
