My background is I've been following this forum's advice since 2014 when we had our pool re-plastered. We changed none of the equipment at that time and have had minimal issues. I've been advised by my pool guy (he only opens, closes and repairs stuff for me) that my single speed .75 HP pump likely needs replacing soon (he had to replace the capacitor yesterday so it would start and remain running). I'm considering a VS pump where I can increase flow for short periods of time will help with the skimming action of the pool, which I've always thought was weak compared to my neighbor's pools. He likes Pentair equipment and has advised a 1.5 HP Pentair VS pump would be a good replacement for my pool size (~28,000 gallons). My pool is a free form shape with an 11' deep end sloping up to a 3' shallow end, no water features, single pump set up, sand filter and I use a dolphin robot for cleaning the bottom and walls.
This has me thinking about a SWCG as well. While manually chlorinating has worked very well for me I wouldn't mind not going to the pool store every few weeks for chlorine. I understand the payback of converting.
I'm looking for affirmation/advice on the equipment being recommended by my pool guy:
Pentair IC 40 (I've read it's recommended to go 2X by many on the forum)
Pentair Superflo 1.5 HP VS pump
I've read past threads, but am hopeful someone can give the equipment above a sanity check or make alternative recommendations.
Thanks
