I’m a 5 year pool owner and have learned everything I know about maintaining a pool from this site.
My pool cover came off early spring so when I opened the pool I started with something that resembled a pond. This normally isn’t an issue but for some reason what you see in the picture seems to be as good as I can get it.
I thought I made a breakthrough yesterday when I pulled out my stars and found all this algae inside. I brought it up to shock level after that at around 6pm. This morning my fc was around 6 so I added enough to bring it back up. When I got home this evening my fc was around 5 and I just don’t see any changes.
It’s semi clear with I guess a slight green tint. Could this be a phosphate or metal issue or is it just plain old algae? I thought if it was algae and I shocked it that it would turn more into a white cloudy type like it did when I intitially opened it and it was super green.
Fc 5
PH 7.5
CYA 35
TA 80
These fc numbers are from my k-1000 test kit because I’m waiting on more r0871

Iron in water will stain toilet bowls, sinks, etc. Do your have a water softener or other water conditioning system?

OK -- I assume you do not fill your pool with that water.

There is a good chance you may have some iron. One way to find out is to put some paper towels in your skimmer basket. Do not block off all the water. See if they turn brown.

Just a note. From what I’ve read signs of iron are crystal clear water with green tint. This water is not clear. If I put on goggles I can’t make out the liner on the other side of the pool. There is a haze. How long do I leave paper towel in skimmer to check for signs of iron. I don’t recall having iron stains before I installled water softener about 4 years ago

Ok I pulled out the paper towel and it has a green tint. Just plain ol algae I guess. I just don’t understand why shocking doesn’t seem to be helping much

CC is not a definitive marker for algae, either way. It is an indicator, but not definitive.
