So I've been back and forth on salt water set up for new 24ft pool. Ive been doing research online only, purchased salt water generator and salt. I was having trouble figuring out how to plumb it to my pool. Later found out the generator and cell is for inground.
Just Curious which set ups others used. Did you hard plumb? I was hoping to get a unit that could easily be removed for winter etc

It really doesn't matter if you have an inground or above ground pool. Either can be plumbed so the SWG can work properly. Hard plumbing with unions will allow you to easily remove things for the winter. Post a photo of your pool where you want to attach the plumbing and a photo of your current equipment set up and we will help you develop a plan.

I bought the fittings and valve to Hard plumb it at the second store I stopped at today. I didnt get any unions though (I could always disconnect the salt cell and take that inside)
I'm at the point of should I even bother with salt water. Is it really that much better/easier and cheaper than regular chlorine? I've never owned a pool, just other people's opinions. Basically I'm second guessing it because both pool stores I stopped at today told me not to do salt water. Any help is appreciated

The cost of manually chlorinating vs using an SWG is a wash. With an SWG you are paying the cost up front. Most people who love their SWG love the convenience of not having to manually dose the pool every day with liquid chlorine.
A steel wall above ground pool is going to rust whether you use an SWG or not. My pool developed a fatal rust problem and I never had a leak and I never used an SWG. You just need to keep an eye on the pool and take care of any rust before it becomes a problem regardless of the chlorination you use. Salt is a byproduct of chlorine in any form, and salt will build up in the pool over time.

Is there a plug that you can use inside the pool that would go into the actual eyeball? Rather than plug the fitting on the outside if the pool where the return hose connects? I need to remove that threaded fitting and replace it with a male threaded fitting to accept 1.5 " pipe.
We just had a good full day of rain and the water line is high. Not easy draining the pool.

Are we talking regular eyeball return into 11/2'' thread ? if so just unscrew the eyeball from the water side including the ring and the back portion too. Then use a winter plug.

Just unscrew your return eyeball on inside and put in a winter plug.
I drained pool below return line. I'm a little skeptical about the weight that will be on the return fitting. Pulling on the side of the pool. Yes, I plan on using some wood underneath the piping or stakes/clamps but am I over thinking?

Anyone have pictures of their salt water setup that is hard plumbed? Also I'm thinking adding the shut off valve along the pipe in between pool wall and salt cell. As well as a union so I can remove it and bring it inside for winter

Here’s my current setup - kind of hybrid right now as i still use an intex swg. I will switch the hoses out completely for pvc when I upgrade. There is some pressure on the wall but it was there w/ just the hoses before anyway. I feel its more stable now. With the pvc you need to be sure it’s not run in a way that could present itself as a “ladder” to gain entry to the pool.

also here’s the plugs i use to winterize or do maintenance

In a pinch I have jammed a plastic bag into the eyeball, but plugging is better!

I got home from work and just installed the salt system. After I got it all glued together I realized I should've used a different fitting where it connects to the filter and pool.. Now if it leaks, I can't pull it apart and re-apply teflon. So fingers crossed for now. I'll have to add a couple unions to hopefully solve that issue.
