May the fun begin - conversion of 15 yr Baquacil pool

Did you get a salinity yet? The salt test is one of the most definitive color transitions of all the drop tests. but like all drop tests if you use too much reagent (~50 drops) it will create a testing error that makes the results un reliable. So if you get to 30 drops just stop and do a diluted test or use a smaller sample. The actual endpoint is a salmon brick color.. but if it pops to brown you've overshot it with one drop! Are you using a stirrer?

See the picture. He has 2600ppm salt.

Got temp up to 85-86 and took a swim last night. Had to put the light back in the niche. Water very smooth, and crystal clear. Salt up to 3,200ppm so far. From 30ft away in the shallows, clearly count the drain holes in the deep end. Few more days and will fire up the SWG!

These are the fittings I’m wondering about.

Compared to the other ones, you’ll notice the socket that the pipe slides into is much more “shallow”. This is usually indicative of PVC-DWV, which stands for “Drain-Waste-Vent”. DWV pipes are made for those 3 purposes, and aren’t rated for use in pressure systems. When placed under pressure, the connections can fail.

What you want is PVC “Schedule 40”, which is pressure rated.

If you look closely at those fittings, there should be identifiers. If you see Sched 40 or similar you should be in good shape. If you see “DWV” you’re going to want to replace those.
Alrighty. You can sleep better tonight. Got a more better connector set and ruined another t-shirt with purple primer tonight. Still have the SWG to get plumbed and wired for action.

Thanks again for the assistance from a distance. 👍😜

Looks great. And now you should have no reason to worry about any spontaneous leaks. Nice work.

Glad I’m not the only one who ends up wearing that stuff!
I always end up with purple birthmarks on my hands and fingers for a week. But if I wear my Prince outfit, I blend right in!

SWG installed. Also added a timer. Don't have a schedule yet, pins still at factory settings.

Today at 1430hrs, I fired up the RJ30+. Glad it didn't explode or smoke as I am a novice electrician.

Readings from test kit:
FC 1 (didn't add anything overnight)
pH 7.8
TA 85-90
CYA 60 (will add 2lbs to get up to 70)
K-1766 reported 3100-3200

RJ30 is reporting 3100-3130 but will keep checking.

Having a 13700 pool, out of the box this is running at 50%.

31 days, Baqucil to SWG. Would have been sooner but had other priorities including a 16 yr old having major hip restoration surgery 2hrs away this past week. Left the pool in the hands of my 19 yr old and he did great, added pre-measured containers and running the robot (checked for dead mice too!).

Thanks for all the wisdom and support here. Just need the Ohio weather to cooperate.

Looks good. Fc of 1 is waiting for trouble. Get it up to target per the cya chart with liquid chlorine asap and then let the SWCG take command. Your install isn't bad. I hope the flow switch just after the 90 bend works out. It is supposed to have 12 inches straight pipe before it and can also be mounted just after the cell using it for straight pipe.

Yep, I added a shot of bleach and adding a little more CYA right now.
