Coverstar Autocover and Spa Coping

Hi everyone,

First time poster. I had a new fiberglass pool (Ultimate 30 by Leisure Pool) with built in spa installed this Spring. The contractor did not install any coping (pavers) around the sides of the built in spa that are inside the pool. When I inquired why this was left like this, I was told that this coping would interfere with closing of the Coverstar autocover (yet to be installed). This seems odd to me as the pool really looks unfished without the spa surrounded with coping. I searched some images online and I seemed to have found some images showing pools with autocovers and built in spas with coping.

Is anyone able to confirm if what the contractor told me is accurate? Of course it’s more a cosmetic issue but we are not thrilled with how the pool looks with no coping around the spa.

I included a photo for reference.

Thanks in advance to any and all responders.

Its a matter of space- the cover has to be able to roll over the spa, not get to the spa and have to lift up to go over a higher ledge. Is there room?

Grab a ruler or something and lay a piece of coping on the spa wall - does that make it too high for where the track is? Take a picture if want to show us the junction joint where the spa wall meets the side wall where the track is.

The only way to do it is to have a low tile as you can see examples of it on youtube, however I am getting the Ultimate 40 and had the same discussion with the builder and he was not confident using an under coping cover as the pool coping would be up higher in order to create the height necessary for the cover to clear the coping on the spa. Thus we are choosing to use a surface mount track on the coping for the cover and will have bluestone coping on the spa. I still want to be sure the coping edges are smoothed to ensure the cover isn't dragging over sharp edged spa coping. The safety outweighed the aesthetic. Without the coping on the spa you run the risk of spider cracks which are just cosmetic but perhaps you also your issue if it's a real crack. Now I have nothing built yet as I am waiting for our pool to ship and everything is messed up this year.
