Hello and welcome to TFP! I can tell you a few things to get you started:
- You have algae. The sliminess and cloudy water shows it. To remove algae, we at TFP use the SLAM Process.
- You have to stop going to the pool store for their testing and advice. That same place selling you bags of shock, pH this & that, and tabs are responsible for your cloudiness caused in-part by an extremely high CYA (stabilizer) level. The only way to lower the CYA is by changing out some water.
- You should first order a TF-100 (link in my signature) or Taylor K-2006C test kit. Either one, we don't care, but you need one of those to obtain reliable at-home results. It's not hard at all. This must be your first priority.
- While waiting for the test kit, read the link below. It's a great place for all your questions. Don't add anything else to the water except liquid chlorine or regular bleach. Maybe a half gallon per day.
- Update your signature with all of your pool and equipment info please.

Once you receive your test kit, post a full set of those results so we can be sure of what actions to take next. Lots of folks here to help.

At 4000 gallons your pool is still small enough it may make sense to simply drain and refill. Still get the test kit outlined above, stop going to the pool store, and follow our advice and we’ll get your pool looking just as clear as mine:
