I have a One Touch setup to Activate the Cleaner which bumps up the ePump RPM and opens the vacuum line JVA. At the same time I need it to close the skimmer and drain.
There are only options to turn a device ON. If I set it to OFF it simply skips that device and doesn't turn the device to that OFF state. This results in the skimmer and drain remaining open but I need it to close.

Is there a way to achieve this?

As far as I know the standard RS-8 only supports 4 JVA‘s. Two of these are used up for the suction and return JVA’s to switch between pool and spa modes. You are using one for the cleaner so that only leaves one JVA free. I’m not sure how you can control the two additional valves associated with the skimmer and drain.

l’m guessing that you have three separate pool suction lines, each with a Jandy on/off valve that all Tee into a header that becomes the pool suction line from what you are describing. Pictures would help.

If this is the case you may need to change your plumbing so that the vacuum line is not an on/off valve but rather a three way valve up on the suction line header replacing the Tee that is there now. Then when the cleaner line is turned on all the other suction lines are turned off.

This can work depending on the location of cleaner line relative to the other to suction lines. If the cleaner line is the one closest to the pump input it works, otherwise you might need to replumb that cleaner suction line so that it is upstream from the other two suction lines.

It’s kind of hard to explain in words, I hope this makes sense.

Hi @MSchutzer , thank you for the explanation, I understand. I already have the JVAs installed and operable via a JVA AUX boards. I have schedules configured to open and close the actuators automatically according to schedule and it is all working well so no need to replumb. I just want to be able to use One Touch to open the Cleaner (which it does now) but also close skimmer and drain at the same time (which I am having to do manually now via toggling the aux On/off, or let the schedule run). I want to do this if I want to run the cleaner ad-hoc after a large swim. Currently I would need toggle the cleaner on, skimmer off, and drain off, which is 3 steps which I would like to reduce to one step via a One Touch.

Thanks,
Christopher

Ahhh, okay I understand.

So you’re saying you can’t add a JVA Aux off to a one touch command, it only supports a JVA Aux on command?

I think you should be able to do this with a one touch command as long as the name of the JVA device shows up in the equipment list.

For example the name Cleaner is assigned to a JVA valve. If I go to set up a one touch menu item one of the equipment choices is Cleaner and I can toggle it on or off on the one touch list.

I assume you have names for your skimmer and drain associated with JVA’s. These should show up in the equipment list choices and can’t you just select them as off in the one touch list? Or are you saying that if they are on already they won’t turn off when the one touch item is executed?

If the latter is true then I would set up two one touch items a minute apart with the first one being a one touch “all off” followed a minute later by your one touch that turns on the Cleaner. Since the skimmer and drain functions will be off due to the previous “all off” they should stay off when the Cleaner is turned on.

It seems like this should work unless I’m missing something.

My OneTouch will turn devices off. Can you post a print screen of the below? When I activate a OneTouch from the below, it does what each device is set for, including turn it off.

In fact, I totally stopped using the OneTouch for this very reason; it shuts everything off!

Wow @PoolGate I'm not seeing that behavior on my system. For example, I have a One Touch to bump up the speed. All other options are "OFF" but that doesn't mean my lights will turn "off" at night if I decide to use the One Touch to increase the pump speed. The same for my Cleaner One Touch, it only turns items ON and NOT off, otherwise my lights would be turning off at night if I turned on the cleaner One Touch.

Attached are two screenshots of the Cleaner One Touch. Second page has everything off. I don't have a way to define if I want the skimmer JVA OFF or simply left untouched and in the state they presently are. Currently anything that is off is left in it's current state, whether off or on.

Correct.

I do have them in the list, and they are set to OFF but their state does not change when I turn on the One Touch.

On a positive note, I was able to take the JVA from the drain, which is connected to a JVA AUX Board, and moved that AUX board to AUX 1, which is always triggered when the cleaner is on because I have dip switch 1 turned on. Because of that, the drain JVA will always close when I turn on the cleaner. I also adjusted the cam so I closes 80% which is the perfect amount of suction required for the vacuum. Since I never need to operate the drain JVA without the cleaner, I just freed up Aux 7 which I had that JVA originally on and now I reduced a step of having to turn off the drain and turn on cleaner.

Now when I need to turn the cleaner on, I just turn cleaner on, and turn skimmer off, and the drain closes too since it's on the JVA AUX 1 board. I just need to figure out how to reduce this extra step so when Cleaner is on, Skimmer is off.

Interesting... I just manually turned the pool light on and then activated the one touch item for filtering, this just has the filter pump running and solar Heat enabled and everything else off including the pool light.

When I activated the filtering one touch the light stayed on, so my system doesn’t respond to the off items on the one touch menu either.

The only thing that turns everything off is the one touch ”all off”.

So it looks like you may be stuck with your modified solution that gets you down to two items to change.

To force an item off on a one touch setting would be a good feature enhancement for Jandy to add. You could have three settings for each item, on, off, or unchanged and then you could set it up the way you like.

Thanks @MSchutzer for the confirmation that yours is working the same.

That would be perfect but unfortunately Jandy doesn't listen to it's customers.

One more option is to have the skimmer valve operate opposite by flipping the switch on the JVA. So turning it "ON" would close it and turning it off would open it, but then the status of the valve would not be accurate as it would be opposite.
