Pool Build in SW Ohio - Almost there!

Concrete day 2 in the books. Plan is to pressure wash things tomorrow and then seal Friday. Can’t wait to see how the color turned out. 27EDDC6E-8AFC-47BD-8C6D-21844B867205.jpeg1F3EF3C8-EB59-45E8-A6C5-3F6D7B283AC1.jpeg

I’m using the Pour-slid skimmer lids and deck channel drains. They poured those today also. Really cool solution that makes those eyesores disappear. 797516E2-232A-4D9C-9825-8E61C7FBD9D7.jpeg

I’m intrigued by your deck shape. Not sure if you mentioned already, but what are your plans for the arms?

This is the concept we're working from: Capture.JPG

We modified it a bit (expanded some of the narrower areas, bumped the fire pit deck area out so all the chairs would sit on the deck and I won't have to mow around them, etc. They will build a stacked stone fire pit next week that will have a gas burner. I really wanted a wood fire, but was afraid to have embers flying around that close to the auto cover.

We did all the furniture in Polywood, so the chairs around the fire pit on the right arm are these: Modern Adirondack 3-Piece Set and the seating on the left arm is this set: Vineyard 4-Piece Deep Seating Set. The walk-out basement is where we do all of our entertaining, so the hope is that it feels like an extension of that space so we can have a fire, grill, etc. even when it's too cold to swim.

Love the furniture - what color did you go with?

Also, glad you modified to have all the chairs on the deck - that will look much better!

Looks good. Can never have too much room around the pool. The flow looks like its gonna work well with your rendering. Like the furniture too but I dont want to even think about furniture...I got a "btw I ordered the furniture I wanted" last week from wife. Yesterday I saw the cc charge of 9k for it all, shes nuts. Her response was "I put it on the biz card so you can write it off on a pool job honey"

Well, if it’s outdoor furniture it is a pool job... your own!

$9k? Wow.

Hahaha! Polywood is definitely a “just don’t even tell me how much” purchase. That said, I didn’t fight it too hard. I. Hate. Maintenance. We’ve built everything here so that the only things that have paint on them are inside, so I wasn’t about to mess that up.

Our first choice was black, but ended up going with white with tan cushions because the dealer said the black shows dust worse and is hot in direct sun.

Totally agree with dealer. You want your furniture usable all season!

Agree, big fan of composites for anything outdoors. My breakdown was 4200 for table amd 8 chairs plus 3 bar stools for the outdoor kitchen I just built. Actually really nice solid aluminum stuff I've used elsewhere before. 2600 each set 2 sets total of some outdoor large sectionals that shes making a sofa in one spot and a huge U shape in another. Only good thing is you can mix pieces amd build what you want shape wise so we will see how that goes.
Thankfully she went light colors too she knew better than the black she was looking at. Dont like the idea of customers telling me they take their cushions in always as even high end stuff doesnt last outdoors. These cushions are sunbrella we will see what happens. I'm never home so i can't get blamed anyway

We found an awesome dealer who is a small shop and really knows his trade. I love finding people who are really good at what they do. He said the Sunbrella cushions should last us 5-7 years or more if we don’t take them in for the winter and longer if we do, so we’ll see. Was a little nervous about the deep seating since the cushions are integral, but it turns out you can order replacements from a dealer - but not on the website - and they are actually not obnoxiously priced.

I don’t know what our breakdown was and I’m afraid to ask. 😬

Smart not to ask, I got screwed was on my card so found out the hard way via alert email. Guys were all laughing I was digging in the excavator and things came to a screeching halt with some choice words coming out of the cab 🤣

I read the same thing of 5 yrs or so. Hopefully longer with some taking the stuff in, I see many people cover their stuff. Just one more thing to worry about. It's so much easier to go to somebody else's house to swim amd eat their food amd drink their beer

Something many people wouldn't think of with an autocover! We have a really nice SoloStove on the patio by the house, was going to move it over by the pool area, but if we are hanging out there and the cover is closed, just too much of a risk for such an expensive cover. We also went with a gas fire pit near the pool and will keep the real wood burning pit by the house.

I'm also dreading the furniture purchase that will be upcoming. We didn't even talk about prices, or even a budget, just know I'll be like Jimmy when I see that notification come across when the charges hit. Maybe not in an excavator when it happens, but things will come to a screeching halt, and choice words will be used!

As I was sitting in our garage last week assembling the dozen pollywood chairs, tables and lounges my wife ordered…. My son decided to help out. He inadvertently dropped one the arms of the new Adirondack chairs of which I had to remind him that was a $230 part :)

Pollywood is no joke. As long as it lasts! I’m currently half way through my “cry once” phase.

@wgipe Your pool and house look amazing! Kindly pass along the VRBO link once that’s ready. We will even test and treat your pool water for you :)

Concrete gets sealer tomorrow, then stack the fire ring and backfill topsoil next week. Tested everything today after they brought the water level up, and everything seems to work well. A few questions:

1) I’m getting an occasional air bubble from the returns (every 20-30 seconds) at both 1,200 and 2,000 RPM. There’s also an air bubble in the pump lid, and it appears there’s a bubble every now and again coming in from the suction input on the pump. Should I be concerned about that? Pressure test was good throughout the build. Perhaps the union needs another quarter turn?
2) I have some cloudiness that started after some concrete dust got in the pool from the color hardener. They had it tarped, but there was no way to prevent all of it. Test results are linked in my signature. Everything looks in line. I did add salt and CH today.

So, I have learned that the variable speed pumps will have bubbles at the lower speeds. I have also been advised to not worry about it

I see them whenever I drop below 1400 rpm.

Like you, I have a few bubbles in pump strainer basket. Now I just walk away!
