A ton of these ‘crystals’ are in the pool getting cleaned up by the robot after taking the tarp up and opening up? Any ideas what it might be. Pics are a ‘wet’ and a ‘dry’ look.

It doesn’t seem like its the plaster deteriorating. Ive had that happen on old plaster and that was more like a sand and less like these crystals.

Also posting a pic of some sediment crystallizing on my coping thinking it might be related.

See this thread for a discussion about calcium precipitating out of the water or plaster during the winter...

Pour some acid on the stuff and see if it bubbles.

We seem to have had strange chemistry in our closed pools in the Northeast this winter.

Cya < 30
Ch 320
Fc 1.5
Ph high well over 8.0
Ta 70
Water Temp cold. Under 60 d.f.

I just got the tarp off yesterday so getting cya ph etc in line is priority over the next couple days. The super high ph is typical when i open.

The crystals do bubble with vinegar. Does that mean it’s definitely some calcium precipitate?

The deposit on the coping does not bubble but the vinegar did loosen it up and clean it off.

any reason to do anything other than clean it up and balance the chemistry like normal?
