On the deep end of my pool is a built in bench. There are two ports there which i assumed was for massaging your back. On the pool deck just behind this area are what appear to be two copper lines that were cut off. When i open the valve that turns on the ports at the bench, it sucks air in through one of the cut off copper pipes and blows a lot of bubbles and a little bit of water out of the one port in the water. The other port seems to have nothing coming out of it. I'm confused as to what this is supposed to be or what it used to be.

The holes on the deck are probably air intakes for venturi style jets.

The jets might be closed or clogged.

You might have to direct more water to the jets by partially closing the return line.

Great way to aerate for lowering your TA as we are discussing in your other thread!

As James says, pinch back your return valve and see if you can put more flow to those jets to aerate!

You guys know everything! I closed the return off slightly and the one jet bubbled a lot more. I'll leave it on to further aerate. The other doesn't seem to be working at all. Any idea how to unclog it if that's the issue? There are no other return valves so i dont think it would be on a separate valve.

Try to get a picture of what's in there.

Maybe use a mirror to look in and get a picture.

See if both holes look the same inside.

Be extra careful with glass around the pool.

Maybe the jet nozzle is missing or maybe the line was plugged for winterizing and it never got unplugged?

The nozzles are set back about 18 inches inside the holes. They both looked the same. There must be a blockage in the one further back in the line. Maybe i should try gently shoving a wooden dowel in it to see if anything dislodges.

There are gunite venturi nozzle tools for removal of the jet nozzles. But knowing what nozzle it is is needed to know what tool you need!

It might be something like this, but we would need pictures to be more certain.

It's odd that only one jet has any pressure.

Maybe it's plugged somehow.

You can try squirting some water into the hole in the deck to see if that does anything.

Don't apply any significant pressure because the venturi tube can sometimes come loose and leak.

Or maybe try to put some back pressure into the wall fitting with a garden hose to see if anything happens.

Again, minimal pressure to avoid problems.

Unfortunately i can't get a picture of it. I have to use one hand to hold the mirror and the other for the flashlight. The nozzle is set so far back in the tube that it's dark even in daylight.

The hole in the deck just goes straight down into the tube where the nozzle is. It looks to be a few inches in front of it but i can shine a light down it and see through it so thats not clogged. If i direct water into the wall hole, it just shoots water up out of the air hole in the deck. Does the same on both jets. I'm pretty sure the jet nozzle is hexagonal for a socket so I'll try that when i get a chance.

Ah, sometimes i forget i have these fun impulse buys i think I'll use but never do until the perfect time comes...i have a snake camera that hooks up to my phone. Here's a video and photo. IPC_2021-03-19.12.27.24.3710.jpg

Interesting, I suspect that the hexagonal part would probably unscrew, but I wouldn't try too hard in case it doesn't come out.

Maybe get a socket on an extension to see if it will unscrew.

You don't want to break something and cause a leak.

I'm not sure why water is only coming out of one jet.

Well, good news and bad news. It is indeed a 1/2" socket. The good news is it's unclogged and working again. It had a bunch of rocks and sand plugged in the jet.. I'm guessing from when the pool was resurfaced just before i bought the house.

The bad news is the nozzle plastic is really brittle and the tip broke off...i didn't even have the ratchet on the extension. I was just turning by hand. I could feel the nozzle turning and then stopped which made me think it was the type that twist to lock. With the jets on, i was turning the nozzle clockwise then ccw to try to find the point at which it would unlock and blow itself out. I guess as long as its unplugged and working now, it doesn't make a difference. I don't think it'll be easy to get that nozzle out now...

See if it still pulls in air. Otherwise it is still good to have chlorinated water flowing through it.
