The part that inserts into my pool wall has broken off thanks to the winter storm here and I am trying to get it removed. It is about 8 inches below the water level and there doesnt seem to be an easy to get it out. so what is a non easy way. cant get a pool guy out for quite a while. it screws in by the way but its been in there for at least 10 years and it is not budging so far. Thoughts?

Depends if you have touch of a surgeon.

You have to use a fine saw blade to gently score the inside of the fitting that broke without cutting down into the threads of the return pipe. Then try to chisel and remove a segment of the fitting. Once you get one or two pieces out the rest should fall right out.

Be patient and work slowly and delicately so you do not damage the return pipe threads.

@jimmythegreek @JamesW @Jimrahbe other ideas?

There are two nubs inside that you can use to try to unscrew the fitting.

This tool is designed to remove it.

You can also see that there are two notches in the back.

You can slip a flat piece of metal into the fitting and unscrew like that.

What about finding a diamond bit hole saw that will fit snug inside? To try and spin it out? You would just need a chuck with a socket wrench (that you dont care about)
I say diamond bit cause the tip is like sand paper instead of teeth.

Or this if you want to spend the $$$
