Circupool RJ45+ Install Advice Please

Hello,
First, I would like to thank everyone on this forum for the education, advice, and guidance in properly maintaining my inground pool. Great resource with great people on this forum.

With that being said, I have decided to install a SWG on my 17K gal inground vinyl pool with VS pump. Seems to the way to go and eliminate lugging jugs of bleach.

I may be over complicating, but I have a two options on my installation.

Option 1; remove the never used chlorinator and use the Circupool retro kit. This would add a few elbows but seems the less complicated.
Option 2; re-plumb to raise the pipe up from the slab and install in a straight line, should have enough length for flow switch and SWG before the ell going down/back to the pool. Not sure if it is worth the hassle to save an elbow. The instructions state to invert the cell with VS pumps, so I would need to do this for elevation clearance from the slab to run the unit and flow switch horizontally. However, I would need to hunt down a new union for the pentair heater, which seems difficult to find so I can eliminate the existing 45 elbow.

Any recommendations? I keep circling back to Option 1 the retro loop vertical installation. I just have have to add a section of pipe between the top elbows to make up the difference in the take out of the chlorinator.

And one other quick question, is Oatey Rain/Shine primer and glue a decent product for pool plumbing?

Thanks

Who did all the PVC work on your equipment?

It looks like DWV 90's with small hubs instead of the proper schedule 40 90's with deep hubs were used. Read...

Easy,

While the DWV couplers are not recommended, I have used them on my own stuff for 15 years and have never had a failure. The pressure in pool plumbing is very low and should not be an issue.. Unless leaking, I would never remove one just because it was a DWV fitting..

I like option one.. Remove the tab feeder and install the cell. The downside is I doubt there is much flex on either end of the pipe, so you will have to make sure that the unions on either end of the cell are in the right locations.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Easy, checkout my install below. Keep it as simple as you can. I eliminated my tab feeder and was good. If you need to elevate the horizontal run slightly for that inverted clearance, that's fine. Good luck!

So I researched the fittings and read the post in the link. I can honestly say you learn something new everyday. Since I have no leaks, I will leave them alone and better educated to repair in the future. Thanks for that, lol.

So option 1 using vertical installation? I do like the idea of keeping it horizontal but the pipe is too close to the slab if it needs to inverted as the instructions state for VS pumps.

Thanks for advice, appreciate it.

For my RJ+45 install I replaced the same puck chlorinator from my system. I did option 1, and due to space restrictions did a vertical installation. Due to time and ease I ended up buying the vertical install kit when I bought the RJ+45. You could buy the fittings and make one easier enough, I was being lazy.

With the vertical, and I have a VSP, have not noticed any pressure differences going out to the pool.

Texas, thanks and great write up.

I was lazy and purchased the same kit MacGyver. Although I am still leaning to buying a new union kit for the pentair heater, replacing the DWV elbow set out of the heater return to raise the elevation of the pipe so I can invert the SWG cell, and run it horizontally. I will have to locate the SWG right after the elbow out of the heater and use it for the 12" distance needed for the flow switch installed after. If you dont mind me asking, what RPM do you run the VS pump? Do you run it 24/7? Curious since we have similar size pools and same SWG.

Still wrapping my head around the DWV fittings. Although I learned something new, it is disappointing relative to the installation.

Thanks again everyone for the help.

Yep, run my VSP 24/7. Think my lowest over night is about 1200 to keep the cell producing, and then think about 1800 about 6 hours in the afternoon/early evening when we swim with the dogs. I'm still about 6+ weeks away from starting back up to confirm what my setup is.

I do have mine jump to 2200 twice a day for 10 minutes for another issue, not related to the SWG. (to try to reduce the bubble that builds up in my pump inlet basket.)
