Hello. I think I need to replace a ball valve. The handle is ok.....it’s the shaft that the handle connects to that has broke. If I have to replace the valve......once I cut it out I want have anything for it to slide into. Any suggestions..?

Appreciate the support.

Hey Chris and Welcome !! The bad news is you are replacing the entire wishbone. Both sides need to be dug down to clean pipe, and spliced new, including the T and into the pump. We always recommend to leave plenty to splice to down the road for this exact reason. Sometimes, like now, you can only do so much to make it better for next time.

The good news is that pvc is dirt cheap. Use repairable valves though and you'll never have to cut the pipe again to fix them. Either pentair valves, or jandy never lubes.

Good Advice.
6 yrs ago when I was a brand spankin' new pool owner I had to replace some 2" Brass gate valves that had seen better days. Not knowing any difference I went out and bought the same gate valves to install thinking I had to keep everything the same. You can see from the picture, my set up is the same as yours and I had to dig down to where there was enough space to start building it up again. But now, the right gate valve is letting air in and since I know better now, I'm going to be installing some Jandy valves in the next few week as I remodel most of the pool pad.
