Pool Valve Help

I just moved into a new house and wanted to know what setting I should have my valves on. There is no spa, but I have pop up cleaners in the pool and also a vacuum I'd like to use from time to time if there's a storm or the bottom on the pool is dirty. Can someone help me with the correct settings on running my pool without and with the vacuum?

For the suction side where water is coming from the pool:
- You have the skimmer & drain sharing equal suction at 50%. Some place more suction on the skimmer to catch surface debris before it sinks, but experiment. There is no perfect way.
- Below that is the cleaner (guessing for manual vacuum) which appears to be partially open. Again, personal choice as to when you want to share suction. If you aren't vacuuming, usually that is closed.

On the pressure side where water returns to the pool:
- It appears the pool cleaning system is currently off and the returns have full water flow.
- Because of the pic being top view only, I can't quite tell how the plumbing goes tot he waterfall valve. Maybe post another pic or two from other angles?

Oh, and welcome to TFP!

Mike,

Show us a couple of shots of the equipment pad from a little further back and at different angles, so that we can try to determine how the plumbing is interconnected with the equipment.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Below are a couple more pictures hopefully that helps.
It sure does. That first pic had an optical illusion. So basically like I noted above still stands. The pressure line from out of the filter allows you to adjust between water feature, cleaner (system) and return jets. You'll probably have it on jets most of the time. You can switch to cleaner when you want to kick-up junk off of the bottom. The water feature is probably only on when you're actually using the pool. Waterfalls are nice, but create aeration which increases the pH, so be careful about just leaving the waterfall on.

But like I said above, there is no one perfect setting for all pools. Focus on the suction side for now and adjust the skimmer and main drain as you wish, then use the cleaner for vacuuming as needed and close when done. Hopefully that answers your questions. If you have other concerns, let us know.
