Hi guys, we’re in the SoCal desert and yesterday they installed Stonescape Aqua White mini pebble in our new pool/spa. Thus far we’ve been thrilled with the look of the pool. But today after further inspection and after the acid wash treatment, we’re seeing a lot of little things that concern us.
There are blotchy blue spots all over. It’s like the blue plaster they used with the pebble is showing more in certain areas. Is this normal and will soften as it cures? Or did they do an uneven application? Pics attached.
Also, and I think this is unacceptable, the blue from the plaster is still visible on the white water line tile and new concrete and in the grout between the tiles as well. Finally, the line between the tile and pebble is jagged and not straight throughout. Sometimes the pebble overlaps the tile.
We called the contractor and he told us to continue to fill the pool (we had stopped it in case it needed to be looked at empty), he said it could make a ring if there’s some water but not all the way to the tile. So it’s filling as I write this. He will come with his best guy on Monday to assess.
What can be done and what should we expect to absolutely be fixed? Thank you in advance!

Hello and welcome to TFP! So much can influence an installation such as material prep, tech application, etc that variations in appearance happen. I see your concern about the blotchiness, jagged lines, etc, but will leave any feedback to someone in the industry like @bdavis466. If he hops online before Monday, he may be able to give you some notes before your contractor arrives.

Thank you! Today after filling it overnight, we feel better about the surface. It looks a bit more uniform but the sloppy work (stains, uneven lines) needs to be addressed. I’m attaching a picture of it this morning. Thank you for your response!

The uneveness by the tile would drive me crazy. At the very least I'd insist they clean that up. The color looks beautiful though. We are getting aqua white but in Puerto Rico blend small. It's nice to see more examples of it.

Thank you Nikilyn,

Yes I know and now that water is in it’s not as noticeable but I will still address it tomorrow with the pool contractor. Oh I love the Puerto Rico blend! I wanted to have that but it’s more expensive and also, our contractor discouraged us saying the glass isn’t perfected yet and people have complained that it comes out of the pebble. Double-check with yours to make sure he hasn’t had issues with the glass or abalone.

compared to what we have seen from people on here that is a beauty of an install, there are WAY WAY worse jobs, just spend a few days on the site and you will see... :)

Thank you! Our builder just came by with the owner of the pebble install company and they were very receptive and explained how certain imperfections are normal. They will however come back tomorrow to clean the blue paint transfer on tile and coping. They made us feel like we’re in good hands.
