WPC-2 and Smart Switch for Pool Light

Hi everyone, I have a WPC2-xxxx-x breaker for my pool equipment. Currently Circuit 1 is for the pool light which uses the WPC2 remote.... and has recently died. I called S.R. Smith today and they said I would need to replace it with the newer style remote, black box and antenna. Because I never really like having the remote, I would rather install a Smart Switch with the WPC2 to control the light. The guy I talked with at SR Smith said aspiring minds have done it, but I don't want to have a tech come out to install one and tell me he can't do it because a, b, c when he just doesn't know how to make that work even if it is possible. Has anyone done this or have any recommendations for who to call in the Phoenix area that CAN do it? I'm pretty handy and have installed smart switches in my home but if it's not straight forward, I'll leave it to the experts. If a smart switch is too much trouble, I'm okay with putting another timer or photo cell to control the light as well but the smart switch would be ideal.

Thanks so much!

Mr.

Is there even such a thing as a Smart Switch with WPC2??? I assume that WPC2 stands for Wireless Pool Controller #2 made by SR Smith...

On the surface I can't see where it would be hard at all to remove the current wireless light switch and install a standard wireless switch. I suspect that it will have to be a hack of some kind and most company pool techs only install authorized fixes..

Not at all sure that a standard wireless switch will work well inside a metal cabinet.

Show us some pics of the inside of your current system and point out the current light controller.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Does your light on circuit 1 turn on using the toggle switch on the panel?

Is it possible that he meant a switch outside of the box? I will get some pics tomorrow.

yes the light does function with the circuit 1 toggle switch.

Then you should be able to wire a Smart Switch across the toggle switch wires. It will look to the panel like the toggle switch is being flipped.
