Equipment to drain last few inches of water?

We are draining our pool for the season. The last few seasons, we used the drain plug and hoses to drain out the majority of the water and then used buckets and shop vacs to get out the last few inches. There’s got to be an easier way that will save our backs from all the bailing. Is there a pump or something we can buy today to help us?

Yes, like for a pond. I have one I used to drain our pool shell during construction. I had two feet of water in the bottom from rain collection. It will get out down to an 1/8" to a 1/4" or so. If you have a slow spot in the pool, even better. I weighted it down with a rock and hooked it up to a 10' plastic hose I bought at the hardware store.

I just used my vacuum hose to start a siphon then throw it over the side. A coworker does something similar only hooks up his vacuum head and then vacuums one last time while the siphon is going and just dumping out the side of the pool.
