Hello from Charlotte, NC. New to the site, love all the information!

We have our pre-construction meeting on Monday June 30 for our new pool. Here is what we are going with.

Rectangle, 17 X 38, IG, concrete hydrostatic relief, 3.5 to 6ft, 5 Jandy HC LED Lights, Silver travertine coping, Tahoe Blue Pebbletec, 1 umbrella sleeve on tanning ledge, 460 sq. Ft. Cartridge filter system, 2.7. H.P. VS PDA PS6, Fusion & In-line Chlorinator, TR 36P pool cleaner, 6 Venturi jets for spa, 399K Ray Pack NG heater

40 sq’ Spa- 40 sq. Ft., 6 jets Venturi, 1 HC LED light, 2 air blowers,

Any thoughts or feedback would be appreciated. Was considering upgrading to I Aqualink, a robot cleaner and asking for outlets around the pool. We are not doing any decking right now. We will do that later on.

First time pool owners so we are excited but also a bit overwhelmed with all of the options.

Welcome to TFP! :)
The experts should touch on the equipment, I am not familiar with any other than our simple set up. Assuming the Fusion and In-line chlorinator is for liquid chlorine not pucks?

Pro's and con's to cartridge filters vs sand. Sand doesn't filter out fines as quickly or easily, but they are easier (IMHO) to clean by back washing etc and don't need to replace. Pick a side and someone will argue the other way, just personal preference.

Variable speed pump is nice, wish we had one now.

If you can swing it, go for a robot. Life is much simpler and easier in my opinion. Especially when opening. Easy to open at 60 degree water because you set the robot in and let her go! We fought pollen and fines collecting on the bottom until we bought one.

Peruse through pool school, particularly abc's of water chemistry and pool chemicals to use / purpose.
I highly suggest purchasing your own test kit, either the TF100 or Taylor K-2006C. Test strips and pool store tests are highly unreliable and inconsistent, leading to a lot of money spent chasing an issue that probably wasn't there to start with. There isn't much the experts can do to help if you have an issue if they can't trust the results.

Good luck on your build! You are at the right place to start out with a trouble free pool!

How DARE you say THAT !!!!!! Oh wait, you’re totally right. Whoops. My bad.

Hey Yepes and welcome !! Filter styles are debatable all day, but the big 3 have millions of happy owners each. The agreed upon end game is going as big as you can for any of them. The 460 square ft your builder picked out isn’t the largest, But it is plenty oversized for what you are building.

the rest of the gang will be around in a bit. hang tight.

Thanks! The more I read on this site the more I think I should consider doing saltwater instead and skipping the Nature 2 Fusion. My middle son does have sensitive skin and mild eczema. But he has never had issues in any other chlorinated pools. Bit overwhelming to try and figure this all out.

Even the people who don’t have salt agree on this. It puts metals in your pool in a feeble attempt to ward off algae. It irritates skin/eyes and turns hair green. You still need chlorine to sanitize the bacteria anyway so why buy expensive Nature 2 cartridges and still need bleach. Either just use the bleach, or get a SWG. The SWG is more user friendly and can be tweaked less often than the traditional methods. It’s great for busy schedules and people who travel/vacation.
