Frustrated. Can't clean up after "shocking" the pool.

I've been trying for 2 weeks. I bought a 15ft above ground pool. Laster 1month with clean water. The turned green with algea. I bought the Green to bye shock system at Walmart. After 1 day, it gathered up the algea but man, I can't scoop it up.

Used a debri net/pole... Goes right though it. Bought a unit that attaches a hose and scoops up the bottom debri and catches it with a net.. Again, went right through it. Then I purchased a "sock" with thinner "holes", the guy at the pool store said it would work, but no. Again I could see the green cloud exit the sock.

So my question is, how do I get rid of the algea and now shxol stuff?

You need a vacuum. Then it will all get sucked up and run through the filter. If it's big enough to see, the filter will strain it out.

How to hook a vacuum up to your pump setup is beyond the scope of my knowledge. Someone with an easy-set is going to have to answer that one.

And also you need to figure out the chemistry so you don't have this happen again. A full-blown test kit will approach the cost of that pool, but a simple two-way drop kit and some careful record-keeping should keep it clear, Have you seen Guide for Seasonal/Temporary Pools - Trouble Free Pool

Welcome! Do you have a pump that can vacuum to waste?

It came with a pump and filter.
A few things.
I'm not really sure how to work it. It has an air release that I sometimes leave open, sometimes I shut it. I don't know how to work it honestly.

The original filter is 3"tall but got dirty quickly.

I bought a new filter but was like 5" taller and I couldn't add the lit so it's pumping air but still working a bit.

My small filter got dirty so I removed it. I got a wrong size filter. I ordered the correct one on Amazonand will be here in a few days. Is that filter supposed to clean up that algea + shock stuff on its own? Is a filter different than a vaccum?

The air release is just to prime it (fill the pump w/water) then it should be closed.
you may be better off to drain & begin again. Read ABCs of Pool Water Chemistry
& follow the guidelines in the seasonal pool guide.

a vacuum is a hose & vac head - you may be able to hook one to the filter but it will likely be fruitless . They sell some that hook to a water hose

The filter filters whatever water goes through it and strains out tiny particles.

A vacuum connects to the filter and works just like a house vacuum. You run it across the floor and it sucks up whatever is there and it goes through the filter.

But before you consider buying a vacuum and figuring out how to connect it, or buying a big test kit to do a SLAM, it might be cheaper and faster to empty the pool and start over fresh.

r

I am draining the pool right now. it seems like the SLAM method is more geared towards keeping the water. Ive left my filter running, way too slow and not working that well so i figured id start from scratch.

Do you have any advice on what i should do to keep it from getting greed again? I know that even if i scrub some off, when i refill it, it will still have green algae. Itsa 3000 gallon pool. do you have any suggestions for someone re-starting? more chlorine liquid, more chlorine tablets

You will still do the SLAM Process with liquid chlorine but it shouldn’t take as long as it would have to clear a swamp. You will need to add 30 ppm of cya/stabilizer via the sock method. PoolMath will tell u how much to use. Bring ph to 7.2 & slam @12 ppm fc based on the FC/CYA Levels
Test & Bring to slam level multiple times daily- the more frequently the faster it will go.
You are done when:

When all three are true, you are done SLAMing and can allow the FC to drift down to normal levels for your cya

At which point We recommend daily dosing with liquid chlorine to maintain the upper fc target for your cya as per theFC/CYA Levels. If fc is allowed to fall below the minimum for your cya algae & other organics will grow.

In the future use a 10 ml water sample, one scoop of powder, and each drop of reagent to clear is 0.5ppm FC.

The instructional on YouTube said the same thing. But the video showed a sample for 25 so I just felt like sticking to whatever the video said since I'm a complete beginner. This is my first time doing this so I didn't want to mess with anything with my luck 2 plus 2 will equal 5 for some reason
