Hi All,

This is my first post.

I have recently drained my pool and re-filled it. Its been a week and my pool is a slightly cloudy. Couple days ago my chlorine level was low so I shocked it and ran the pump for like 12 hours but its been 2 days and there is slight cloudiness.

Here are the numbers:

1. Free Chlorine: 8.4
2. Total Chlorine: 8.4
3. pH: 7.8
4. TA: 118
5. CYA: 44
6. Calcium Hardness : 52

I have ready a lot on this and found out that I do not need to worry about other chemicals like phosphates, copper etc. My cartridges are 4 years old and I clean them every 2-3 months during heavy usage months. Current Filter reading is at PSI, which is what it had after I cleaned my filters

I was told to add clarifier but I read on one of the posts where you all said its not recommended. Any help will be appreciated.

Thank you,

Local pool store. I just ordered K-2006 Test Kit.
I am going to work on increasing the calcium hardness this week so that number should go up.
I checked the table(CYA- FC) and my numbers seems accurate

Did you fill your pool with soft water? There is virtually no way your CH is 50 ppm in Phoenix, AZ. I would be very careful adding any calcium until you can get a proper test kit.

Your fill water in Phoenix is 250 ppm CH I bet. Unless you filled with your water softener and that would have taken a very long time and multiple regenerations.
The TA looks at least close.

Cloudy, hard to say. When you get your own test kit we can provide some guidance.

I completely forgot about the water softener while filling the water in the pool. I did not turn it off hence I am assuming the pool water got filled through the water softener, which may explain why the CA is low. Filling off the pool took almost a day and a half. Kit is on the way. I have increased my pump tO 10 HOURS.

I had no idea a water softener could process 12000 gallons of water without more salt added!
I would still be careful adding calcium to your pool until you get a proper test kit. In fact, you may have to order calcium increaser as I cannot imagine why anyone in Phoenix might carry it.

I checked with the previous owner of the house and the softener lines are separate from the outside hose lines(that filled up the pool) as the softener was installed after the house was built. Hence, I am going to wait to add any calcium increased, till I get the kit.

OK -- that makes sense. Good you found out. I would say your CH will be 250 ppm plus, and thus, no action on it will be needed.

Now for your future fill water to make up for evaporation, it would be great if you could get soft water to your pool fill system. Some folks here have added water softeners just for their pool water. I am looking at adding one later this year.

The current picture of my pool. As you can see its quite clear but there is slight cloudiness. Its not blue as it has been before but I also do not see any Green hue/tint or any cloudiness.

Keep adding chlorine every day. I would add at least 3 or 4 ppm FC worth of liquid chlorine every day. When you get your test kit that can get refined.

Hi All,

Here are the numbers:

Free Chlorine @25ml = 27 drops * 0.2 = 5.4
Combined Chlorine @25ml = 1 drop * 0.2 = 0.2
pH = 7.4
TA = 110
Calcium Hardness = 130
CYA = 50.

I think all the numbers seem good except TA bit high and Calcium hardness a bit low(but it has increased since I got it checked at the store). Shall I increase the chlorine level?

Please let me know if I got this right as this was my first time testing with the kit. I have to say the kit is so amazing!!
