Return eyeball replacement

I have 5 of these returns in my pool. I had the pool built 8 years ago and I’ve never really like them. I often have to adjust them as the direction of the water flow changes.

My question is am I locked in to these models or can I replace with different types of returns.

Thanks

D,

Most, but not all, pools have standard 1.5" threaded plumbing where the eyeballs screw in..

Show us a side view of your current eyeball...

Just Google "Swimming pool return eyeballs"... You will see a million choices.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks for the response. Here’s a side view. I had tried a different type but it did not fit. My local pool store only had 2 types so I was stuck with these!

Dan,

There are three pieces to a return.. The two you have, plus the one that is still in the wall of the pool.

The part you have in the pool has internal threads, while most returns have an external thread like the one below.. All of mine unscrew like you see in the pic below and I assume yours do also.. If you look inside, you will see two slots that allow you to unscrew it.

Thanks, I will have a look. I thought that 3rd piece was in permanently!
