Added 39oz of 10% chlorine (nasty stuff) with the goal of going from 0 FC to 1.5 FC. FC has been low since the startup guy managed to pool. The highest I measured was 1. Sunlight hits the pool from 10AM-7PM so it has been burning off slightly. Also added 13oz of CYA trying to get from 65 to 70. I will test again tomorrow after leaving pump on overnight. The goals are FC @3 and CYA @70 by Friday before I add salt to 3000 and activate chlorinator for the first time Saturday.

To my eyes the water looked clearer and less blue from the clarifier the startup guy has been adding.I have other chemicals on standby if other parameters fall out of range.

Raise your FC to 10 ppm. That is the target range for a CYA of 70. When you get your SWCG running, target FC of 5-7 ppm. Maintain your FC in that range with your SWCG.

You cannot test and manage CYA that precisely. The scale between the lines in logarithmic, not linear. Halfway between lines is not 5. You cannot eyeball what it is. That is why we say to round up and use the numbers on the test tube only. If the dot disappears between 70 and 60 then your CYA was 70.

All the chemistry recommendations are in ranges. Keep your water within the ranges and don’t try and hit specific numbers.

I do recall reading to roundup CYA. Too much reading. Thanks.

So follow non SWCG targets.

Then move to SWCG targets.

FC is up to 3. I will pause at this stage as I want to see what gets burned off today and test again tonight.

That's the minimum while your SWG is RUNNING, maintaining chlorine ALL DAY long.

Right now you need to join the jug dumper club (PROUD MEMBER). Manage that thing like its a NON-SWG until the SWG is running.

FC was up to 7.5 this morning. Dropped another 1/2 gallon of 10% trying to break the 9.9 barrier. The chlorine vs. UV struggle is real.

Is there another CYA test? The dot sometimes looks like a shadow or reflection.

Also dumped the initial 380 pounds of salt.

We will see what the tests reveal in the morning. Fun stuff.

That is the best CYA test there is.
This is how I do my CYA test.
Once you have your solution ready, back to the sun, etc. Fill the vial to a line, say 80, lower the vial to your waist level and glance for the dot, you see it, add solution to the 70 line, glance, see it, repeat until you no longer see it with a glance. Then use the CYA value one step above the line you read. So if you stopped at 50, use 60 ppm CYA.

The vial is in logarithmic scale. So it is not viable to interpolate between the lines. Just use the whole numbers, such as 50, 40, 30, ....

Chlorinator activation time!

Salt up to 3k✅
Review TRUCLEAR guide again ✅
Power on and set to 60%. ✅
No flow❌
Increase VSP speed ✅
No flow❌

After looking at the wiring the gall dang cell isn’t plugged in. No problem I can plug in a connector. Nope, bond wire runs right over the threads. I could fix it, but nope.

PB’s electricians will be here today. In goes more liquid chlorine.

Problem resolved and chlorine is being generated at 50%. I will order test refills as more FC testing will be done to fine tune the TRUCLEAR.
