So we planted this moderate sized plants when our pool was finished not quite 2 years ago in the planter that was integrated to go behind our waterwall feature:

This is what they look like now:

They are beautiful but the trunks of these things keep growing and are huge - I'm concerned about them damaging the pool. I mean the pool concrete is obviously super thick so I'm not sure if that's a legitimate concern or not, but figured I'd see if anyone here has any expertise or experience to weigh in. Thanks!

I don't have them installed right by the pool but I do have two big ones in a retaining wall on my front yard. I have never seen their roots becoming a problem or "invasive" is the term plant people use. I do trim them though about 1-2x a year to get the deadfall off of them. Here a mine but I have a foot or two of clearance from the wall itself. The one in this photo is probably 4-5 ft tall and is probably 8-10 years old.

what type of wires are they and what do they service?
All of them. House electric to the back, phones and TV/internet to the side and across the front, and it looks like 2 or 3 steel support wires going from the flowerbed to hold up the pole.

Dead accurate! The lowest wires are cable so no biggie. The highest ones thankfully are electricity and are high enough to meet code over a pool. The "guy wires" in the planter - that's a whole story - those used to go into where the pool is now. We paid to have them moved before we started pool construction.
