Hi all! Our pool is almost three years old, and so simple to maintain thanks to all of you at TFP.
I do have a question. In the beginning I was checking our IC40 salt cell every three months, all it needed was hosing off for small leafs and debris. The second year I started checking if every 6 months and would see a tad of calcium buildup, but that too would rinse away with a hose. I've been lax and it has been about 8 months and when I checked today there was a lot of calcium buildup (in my opinion .. see attached). The before photos are before hosing off, but the hosing did not knock off hardly anything.
So I prepared a 1:4 MA(10.5%)/water solution and filled the cell. The water remained clear with only a slight trickle of bubbles. I emptied it into a container and rinsed the cell, I assumed the 1:4 ratio was probably for 30+% acid that you get from pool supplies, so I added another 8oz of MA to the solution and tried again. No improvement. I repeated by adding another 8oz. At this point it was about a 1:1 solution, still no change, just the same ever-so-slight amount of small bubbles.
I went and dd another pressure wash with the hose and the vast majority of the buildup came off, leaving a small amount on one side of the cell (see the After photo). I decided to reinstall the cell, and check-in with you.
What should be the mixture of 10.5% MA to water?
Is it okay to just leave the remaining buildup on until the next cleaning?
Lastly, I read on a post here that someone mentioned using a wooded popsicle stick to knock off stubborn deposits. Is that safe?
Thanks in advance,
York
